Hi everyone! I’m currently on ribociclib and letrozole and so far its been ok! I was so surprised, no real side effects and normal(ish) life seemed possible. I was planning holidays and a return to work. However, the ribociclib has been affecting my liver function. I’ve not felt any different but after a break of 5 weeks so my liver function can normalise,i’ve started back on a reduced dose and my liver is misbehaving again. I’m having another break from treatment. My worry is that with all the breaks, my tumour is being left without treatment. My other worry is thst now i’ll have to try a different chemotherapy and start again with potentially terrible side effects.
Is anyone on any of the similar chemo tablets? How are the side effects? Hows your liver on them? I don’t want to permanently damage my liver but i’m very apprehensive about starting again now life is beginning to return to normal
I was given Ribociclib & Letrozole when I was first diagnosed. I started on 3 tablets which was far too much for me to tolerate. After 2 cycles my liver function was deemed too high to continue so I had to have a 2 month break until the liver results had stabilised. but was reassured that taking Letrozole was helping keep me stable so not to worry.
I was then given Palbociclib which I have had now for over 2 years. I haven’t had any adverse effects at all but my liver function is still slightly raised. My oncologist isn’t worried & said she’s knows that it is caused by the medication so I’m NOT to worry.
I also worry that when I have to change to another drug, this will cause me problems.
Like you I have tried to live a ‘new’ normal life. It’s easy to say but try not to worry about what the future might hold. Hope this helps
All the best
Hiya! Thanks for your words of reassurance! 2 years of fairly normal sounds amazing! I’ve been told I’ll be switching to abemaciclib. I had a look and the main side effect seems to be chronic diarrhoea!!! The joys! Oh well, i’m in it now, everything crossed that its not too punishing!!!
That has been my fear of Abemaciclib! I already have IBD so really don’t need anything to make that any worse. Don’t forget we tend to hear the horror stories of side effects & I’m sure there must be people out there that don’t get the runs.
Good luck
Thats true. No one posts as much about positive experiences!
