Hi, as anyone out there exerienced these problems. had 4 epi and 3. cmf chemo last one dec 2006, unable to complete least chemo due to liver function test being high (GGT if i remember correctly). even now i have high lfts and whilst i used to have very low cholesterol, its now just over the 5 mark which is high for me. Has anyone else had these symtoms and been able to bring them down to a normal level ? Also have pain under left ribs and had liver scan in jan which showed nothing serious which showed a fatty liver but been unable to get any definative answers from oncologist about chemo being the cause.
I’m not in the younger women category but thought I would respond to this as I had abnormal LFTs. I stopped chemo after 4, because of other problems. I had liver pain too and had a scan which showed a fatty liver. This was all about a year ago and in the New Year the LFTs were better but not right. I have had more tests recently but don’t know the results yet. I was told to lose weight and have lost nearly 2 stone so far so that seems to be helping.
I will be interested to hear what other replies you get.
Good luck
Anne
hi F!fan,
Really interesting, as my ggt also very slightly raised, chemo ended feb 2007, herceptin may 2008, on tam, bp drug also pentasa for ulcerative colitis…wot a cocktail, but i was on the understanding a raised ggt was a marker for alcohol consumption, i do drink, not too excess, but i enjoy it!..id be greatful to knoe if FEC ect caused it…
thx jill
I’m not a younger woman either. Nor have I had chemotherapy. I only had radiotherapy and Arimidex - but I have had extremely high readings on my LFT’s. The GGT and ALT readings were the two that were very high.
I have had scans and nothing abnormal has shown up on them.
I was told that it could be a side effect of Arimidex. Also, unfortunately, I was told to not drink a drop of alcohol. I was not a heavy drinker - only one small glass of wine a day. For a year now I have not had any alcohol and surprisingly the results have very slowly come down to near normal but it has taken a year to do this.
The doctor tells me I have a very sensitive liver and must continue not to drink. This I do now for the sake of my liver. I am hoping that once I am off the Arimidex I can once again have a glass of wine with my meal, but not before.
My husband is happy though because he knows that I can always be the driver when we go out for a meal/drink!
