Just a note to say our August podcast, focussing on body image and personal feelings, is now live on the website. It’s the second part of our extended show, featuring four women who have experienced breast cancer.
I’d like to express my personal thanks to our interviewees for their committment, honesty and openness to talking about living with breast cancer. As Tara, says in the podcast, it can not have been easy to come to a building, with complete strangers and discuss their feelings and experiences.
I am proud of our work. It would never be possible to reflect everyone’s individual experiences of breast cancer and I hope all of you can relate to each of our interviewees and their personal experiences of breast cancer.
If you have any personal concerns or issues you’d like to discuss, PLEASE get in touch with our Helpline (0808 800 6000) or Ask the Nurse email service (nurse@breastcancercare.org.uk) where you can get a individual, detailed answer to your queries.
If you’d like to contact me personally, you can email me at <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%70%6f%64%63%61%73%74%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%70%6f%64%63%61%73%74%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>.
maybe the people talking would not be comfy with film as well - it is personal stuff…??? not having a go mole at all … but i think i’d struggle to be filmed and answer qs… with the weight i have gained etc…
I know one of the people who took part and i think she said it how it is for her… and i also think she was very brave - i am not sure i could do it.
I am still struggling with my memory which has vanished and I cant take in new information including hjoe to post ion websites.
Please help. This is my first post.
I am sure quite a few of us wouldnt mind being filmed. However to be criticised is something else. I was disappointed in the July podcast but i know someone who took part and they answered the best they could. Will listen to the Aug one tomorrow.
Have to say i think BCC is a fab site and although they dont always get it ‘right’ its a great help to many of us.
I did criticize the first one, but I hope it was clear this was not a criticism of the people involved - I had hoped for a more relevant and candid look at what it said on the tin, which I didn’t think we got; I agree it is terribly hard even to talk frankly on sound, let alone be seen on screen - however, given the topic, if you don’t want to do that then…but these are delicate matters…
But they are at the heart of the matter, and it’s time, high time, the professionals took them seriously so they can offer genuine help, if there can be any help, which in my experience at the moment they can’t. Indeed Tara says on both podcasts words to the effect - if you are affected by issues like these, don’t suffer in silence, ask for help - but when I did that it became clear that nobody knew what they were talking about, or what I was talking about…my overall impression is that many of us are really struggling to make sense of ourselves in a new way, in this particular connection, after treatment, and I feel sure patterns would emerge if enough people were asked.
Anyway, the second one is considerably better, though still doesn’t go far enough in my view.
I was one who thought the July podcast a real let down; it didn’t even scratch the surface, however, the August podcast was an improvement but AGAIN did not get down to business.
I agree with snowwhite that if people were only asked/polled/canvassed you would reveal just how many of us are out there having a real struggle with these issues but the bottom line is that no one wants to hear it, not really but I’m afraid we cannot all be swept under the carpet because it isn’t big enough!
