Hi all: I have my first follow up mammogram on Tuesday. Am concerned as I had invasive lobular cancer -was treated with chemo then full mastectomy. I have read that this type of tumour is hard to detect with mammograms - so I asked for an MRI but was told no-surgeon said that they need to look for all types.
Is there a chance they could miss anything? I presume they’ll look really closely-but am a bit worried. I cannot fault the team who looked after me, or the treatment…but…
Maybe have a chat with BCN at mammogram or ring her and say how worried you are.
Thinking of you for Tuesday.
Thanks. I do have a lot of faith in them…couldn’t have asked for better care-but you can’t help twitching can you? I’m seeing the BCN afterwards as I have to have seroma drained-so can have a chat then.
Good luck Sarah, I had exactly the same as you, invasive lobular, so know how you feel. I had my mx before my chemo & rads though. I know some ladies with this type who have asked for an MRI instead of a mammo and their consultant has agreed. I asked for one too but was told no, a mammo was sufficient so I guess it varies from consultant to consultant. I also worry about it coming back around my mx scar, I would never know, its so lumpy and bumpy!
Sorry, not to have been of much help, but I do know how you are feeling.
Hugs

Thanks Patchit-always helps to hear from someone who’s had the same experience. As I said, I think my medical team are great-so just going to put my faith in them. One year down( I hope)…phew!
