Local recurrence after mastectomy/ invasive ductal carcinoma

Hello, I have a very small tumor 2 cm below my mastectomy’s scar.  At the time of the mastectomy there was no cancer found in the lymph nodes and I am not her2 positive It is a recurrence . I am having surgery next week to remove it. I had a pet scan and waiting for results. What are the chances that I will require no further treatment? I have been taking tamoxifen for four years and apparently that stopped working for me. I prior to that tried two different aromatase inhibitor‘s but the side effects were not desirable.

I’m interested in what is the typical treatment in a situation like mine? Appreciate your feedback. Thank you, Janet

Hello,

sorry you are going through this, everyone’s treatment is different so I can only speak from my own experience- only your breast team and oncologist will be able to tell you what’s next based on size of recurrence, spread if any and likelihood of it coming back.

for me I had further surgery, chemo then letrozole which worked for seven years.

it is awful not knowing what the plan is, you have my sympathies. I always feel much better when I have a plan of action and less unknowns and hopefully you will too. Ruby x

Hi Janet, sorry you find yourself in this situation. I haven’t been in your shoes, but I think that your oncologist is the best person to ask. He/ she will have all your results and cancer markers so will know what the treatment and likely outcomes may be. We are all unique, so what one person experiences is not necessarily what happens with someone else. However, I would try and stay positive as possible until your results are back. Good luck. X

A relation of mine is in this exact situation. Her scans showed no spread to anywhere else and the have put her on Palbociclib and letrozole.
