Localisation Procedure?

Has anyone had this done? I didn’t have a clue what this was when I got the details of my surgery appointment and now I’ve googled it I’m a bit freaked out! Especially as it’s not done in the same hospital as my op… I have to get on a bus after the procedure, to get to the hospital for my op in the afternoon.

How did it go for you? Was it painful? Weird? Can anyone reassure me?

Hi Namaste, I think what you are referring to is a wire guided Wide local Excision?  Quite a lot of ladies have that (I didn’t so can’t comment in any detail) but I haven’t heard of having to get a bus from one hospital to another along the way - that sounds a bit crazy to me!  I think I would give them a ring and check what they plan to do - if you do need to switch hospitals I’d have thought they could/should organise patient transport between them.

Hopefully someone with more helpful experience will be along soon.  In the meantime, maybe you could ring the BCC helpline on Monday as they can offer really good advice and support.

Hi Namaste, I had this procedure last year. Don’t worry about it. It’s like having a mammogram, same piece of equipment. First they take some images to make sure they are in the right area (you will probably be sitting down), You will be injected with a local anaesthetic which really doesn’t hurt much. The wire will then be inserted and taped to your skin. You can’t feel the wire once its in. It is a bit odd that you will have to change hospitals. Do you have far to travel? Can’t your hospital do it? Best of luck and try not to worry. Helen
