I found a lump in the top part of my left breast yesterday and although I will absolutely be making an appointment with my GP on Monday, I hoped someone here may have experienced something similar. I feel really silly, but I must admit I have spent the last day imagining all of the worst possibilities.
I’m 33 and on my period at the moment (I know that breasts can react to this so thought it worth mentioning). Last night in bed, I was drifting off when I noticed a hard lump at the top portion of my left breast (around 12 o’clock). It’s not really circular but more of a long oval, and it’s quite deep down and hard. It’s more noticeable when I’m lay down but it’s always there. It moves around some when I manipulate it. My other breast is soft and lump free. I’ve also been feeling run down and full of a cold - although I appreciate that’s likely unrelated.
Im not sure what I’m really looking for here, but I wanted to reach out and see if anyone had experienced similar symptoms.
Hi Jane, good you are being vigilant and going to get it checked, tell the doctors receptionist what’s it’s for they should get you in same day. Push for referral to hospital for check, it’s always better to have peace of mind. Please use the ask the nurse facility on here too. Sending ?please let us know how you get on and again we’ll done on being vigilant ???Shi xx
Following on from Shi’s advice, do remember that the majority of lumps are not breast cancer. I found a long, hard and narrow lump in the lower part of my breast in my 30s and it was a harmless fibroadenoma (a growth of fibrous tissue which was removed, just in case). When I was found to have breast cancer last year, I felt no lumps, being small-breasted and slim. Just please don’t start using Dr Google. Stick to your plan - GP, same day appointment (insist), you’ll probably be given a referral (two week NHS target) and have a thorough check just in case.
And stop prodding it. Nothing’s going to change overnight. Best of luck x
I just wanted to post a quick update here, especially as this forum has been so helpful to me over the last few days. I have been referred to the breast clinic and should get an appointment within two weeks. My GP was lovely and really straightforward which was exactly what I needed. I do have a lump and it is around 4cm long. Not much to do now except to wait and see!
