Hello
Still in a bit of a whirlwind since diagnosis following routine mammogram. I was only diagnosed on 12 May and I’ve already had lumpectomy and lymph node removal (26/5) - can’t quite believe the speed at which this is happening or that it is really happening. My next step is chemo, then radiotherapy and targeted therapy…
I’m a bit achy and tired at the moment but I suppose that is to be expected. It still feels unreal to me and since diagnosis I keep wondering if this is really happening x

Hello and welcome, what you are feeling is perfectly natural, it is the whirlwind of diagnosis and then the start of treatment.
The aching and tiredness is totally to be expected, you have had surgery and an anaesthetic but it will get better just be kind to yourself.
There is the Going through treatment thread which you might well find very useful as there are loads of ladies who will be able to help and support.

Hello bristolmum, it is a bit of a rollercoaster ride from your initial investigations to diagnosis and then surgery and then to where you are now. You will find great support from lots of ladies in here who are treading the same journey as you.
I have finished chemo and just started rads. It’s all doable - it can be a hard journey but my best advice would be take it a step at a time, listen to your body and rest when you need to, don’t google stick to this site or Macmillan for info. I never thought I’d be posting on a site like this but if you join the monthly thread for when you start chemo you will be able to share your journey with other ladies going through treatment at the same time as you and that really helps. I’m a Bristol mum too where about are you?
Hi
Thanks for this, it is a bit overwhelming so a reminder to take it one step at a time and listen to my body is very apt. I’m in Staple Hill and will be having treatment at the oncology centre behind BRI.
Hi Bristol Mum sorry to hear of your diagnosis but welcome to our club which none of us wanted to join but here we are supporting each other, every step of the way. Yes, I agree, it is quite a whirlwind to find yourself in with the complete loss of control you feel you have over your life. Im currently on chemotherapy, having recently completed my second round of FEC. I’m having 4 FEC then 4 T. I’ve coped remarkably well so far and am on the monthly thread for May starters which is helpful to share tips and experiences (and humour) during treatment. I’m 48 with 2 kids in Uni and was diagnosed at the end of March with stage 2 ER+/Her2- locally advanced, invasive and diffuse BC including 4 local nodes. I’m having chemo before mx to shrink the tumour as its 5cm and too ugly for surgery! I wish you all the best on your journey. Stay mentally strong, eat healthy and don’t feel weakness is a weakness.
