I’m just wondering if anyone knows about the long term effects of treatment on the immune system [had WLE, chemo, rad’s now tamoxifen, dx jan 04]…I work in a childrens day nursery and returned to work in november 04…even now I seem to pick up certain ‘’ bugs ‘’ fron the children…most commonly colds and chest infections [i do have a annual flu jab]…but still seem to pick these up.
I’ve been on ‘active’ treatment for the last 3 years and I think (for me) it’s about making sure I eat the right types of foods and stay as fit as I can.
I also have acupuncture that hopefully will help as well. I’ve been on chemo for the last year and my bloods are surprisingly strong which is quite amazing really but I think, for me, it’s what I eat, making sure I don’t come into contact with people who have colds (which isn’t as easy for you!) - I don’t smoke and I don’t really drink.
Whether it’s anything to do with the above or just how my body is - who knows? I was also advised to have the flu jab this year which I’ve never thought about having before.
Also, tamoxifen does have an impact on the immune system (I was on it for 10 years) but nothing detrimental really.
Good luck - i’ts a bit of a minefield isn’t it trying to find out info!
I didn’t have chemo Pinkdove, but have been fine on Tamoxifen , so far as picking up bugs goes. I had a cold and chest infection recently but that has been the only one in a year
