Hello Everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me. On Sunday 3rd April I went to an urgent breast clinic, they found a lump and did a core biopsy. The Dr said I would have results in 7-10 days. I got a letter yesterday - which was dated the 4th April- this is only the day after so I am sure they wouldn’t have results by then. My follow up appointment where I get my results is - 25TH MAY!!
Almost 8 weeks to wait. I don’t think this is right - do you? I called the hospital they aren’t answering. I spoke to my GP surgery, they said this is sadly wait times at the moment.
What can I do - I just want the results. The waiting is horrible. I start a new job on 25th April - so I was hoping to know before then.
What should I do? Thank you all in advance of any replies

Hi Cathryn,
Sorry you find yourself in this situation. I agree 8 weeks isn’t acceptable. I would call the hospital again, try and find out which Consultant you’re with and speak to their Secretary.
I hope you can get the appointment brought forward.
Best wishes, Karen
Hi
Contact PALS and contact the secretary of the consultant you are under…quote 2 week cancer targets…contact your MP if all else fails( sounds extreme, but mine is great…she got me an NHS dentist in 4 days in the middle of the first lockdown, after I had phoned 25 dentists )
good luck
What hospital was it? Have you asked what is the cause of the delay? The usual process is the results are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary team who look at what treatment is recommended if you do have cancer. That usually involves surgery, can also have radiotherapy and or chemo therapy. You would need to find out what your diagnosis is and what the plan is. If you do have breast cancer you would need to take time off for some treatment. I was off for surgery, came back and worked through radiotherapy, went to a cancer support group for a couple of hours per week in work time. That was 19 years ago. I knew people who didn’t work for a year because they felt their health was more important. I certainly changed my attitude to work once I realised I was going to die one day and that none of it meant that much.
I became more tolerant and less driven on career success. It made me happier in many ways.I also started helping other people. I looked after my aunt’s financial affairs and did a lot of repairs on her house to make it better to live in. With central heating she had a much better life and lived to 92 although she had dementia caused perhaps by mini strokes. I also got married which I had never thought I would. Don’t look too far forward.
