I finished radiotherapy at the end of July and the whole area feels tight and is a bit swollen. I can ease the tightness with exercises but if I forget it gets quite painful, especially at night. Anyone else had any of these side effects? Did they get better in time?
Hi Pennies,
It does sound normal . I finished rads mid July and had my annual mammo a couple weeks ago. I was told by my surgeon at the examination that there is still some liquid from rads that would take quite a while to disperse - this might explain your swelling? I also get occasional discomfort - twinges more than constant pain, and was told that is completely normal. I don’t know if this helps - but was certainly left with the impression that it takes quite a while to recover from rads. I also get some tightness from the scar - it doesn’t bother me, but I was told to keep rubbing cream in as it is shrinking and pulling the nipple to one side!

Hi
Very much my experience with mastectomy, particularly at night. I finished 5 months ago, and have a number of side effects, including hard and painful swelling right across the area. I’ve posted about this before. I’m sorry to say, that I have had explanations from both surgical and oncology teams that I’ve had a severe reaction, and it will be a very slow recovery. I have been very fed-up. Doing my exercises, and taking the pain relief. I would love someone to comment who can provide a bit of personal experience about helping recovery, not that I would wish someone in the same boat! K.
