Hi Ladies
Havent been on this sight for a while but would love your input.
I had an LD op last year which didnt go quite to plan due to infections, I had the implant removed and am now looking at having the op again. The op will be a smaller one as have my back muscle still in place.
I would love to hear from anyone who had been in the same or similar position
Hello
I had the LD flop with implant and then had revisionary surgery 18 months later - it was a personal disaster and the surgeon who inflicted the first op on me should be … well he should be stopped from doing it again for sure. Two other surgeons have confirmed it was a “dog’s breakfast”. The mess he made left it difficult for the next surgeon to make it much better but it is an improvement.
I would say, do your research, get at LEAST one second opinion and speak to someone who would consider doing other than an LD flap on you. I am slim and it has left me very disfigured and permanently unable to raise my arm properly despite the second op.
Sometimes even us slim ladies “qualify” for IGAP or SGAP and it will leave you fully able, without a huge scar across your back, and they will be able to transfer some fat back into your bottom to keep the contour.
I would NOT do it all again but I’m sure the success stories will roll in for you any minute …
Hi
I had a LD reconstruction carried out after an original diagnosis of DCIS…and was pleased at the result of the surgery initially… maestectomy with immediate reconstruction… but unfortunately for me my DCIS was invasive with lymph node involvement and after chemo and radiotheraphy the reconstruction has gone ‘west’ settling under my armpit… and feels like a tennis ball. I have been offered further recorrective surgery when I finish my Herceptin e.g an implant in good breast and reconstructive breast to make both breasts as equal as possible. I don’t think I could put myself through that… and don’t think I want to.

Hi Ladies
Thanks for your comments, I still think I will go ahead and try one more time. I would love to have 2 boobs (vain I know!!). I was so pleased when I had the first recon and looked down and saw the boob but then it went iffy so in my mind as I said 1 more go.
Hi Tinfish,
You’re not vain at all, why shouldn’t you have a nice cleavage and feel completely feminine again?
I’m having an LD flap on the 17th of this month (it was supposed to be done in March, but the op was cancelled the morning I was due to go in) I was umming and ahhing about what kind of recon to have, but I’m too thin (apparantley!) for a DIEP and my PS said he may not be able to get a match so I opted for the LD with an implant. I am really hoping they can make the other side bigger, I’m only an A cup and would like to be a B/C.
Good luck to you and I will let you know how my op goes - I’m hoping and praying it’s not cancelled again.
Tracy x
Hi Tracy
I hope your op goes ahead, I have a meeting at the end of this month to talk about the next reconstruction.
You have made me feel better I think I owe it to myself to try one more time, and as I already have part of the op already done it will just be an implant.
