Looking for a latex free cotton post surgery bra

COuld do with signposting please. I am due to have a mastectomy with lymph node removal following chemotheraphy. i am not opting for reconstruction. I am plagued by excema and cannot wear latex and tbh I have been worrying about this.

The breast care nurse has suggested looking for a cotton bra without cup seams with pockets so they can offer me a first form to use. Do you know of anyone who makes such a thing that avoids latex?

Hello,

Have you checked out Marks and Spencers ?

Hi there, I found that M&S cotton rich non wired post surgery bra comfortable. It’s got a deep band under the bust that doesn’t cut under your armpit, it also stays in place. As far as I can see there is no latex in the product description. I can share the link if it helps? Hope it all goes well, just remember to be kind to yourself and listen to your body xx lots of love xx

Hi wibbles

My specialist mastectomy garment supplier/ fitter is the company

“Nicola Jane”.

You phone for a one-to-one consultation, trying on as many as you want. They are specialists and expert at ensuring a good fit for you (you take along any prosthetics you have to test in the bras). Yes, a little pricey (but they always seem to have a selection on sale). I found all-cotton options for myself, as I hate any synthetics.

My local is in Chichester, West Sussex, UK

tel 01243 533188 or email chichester@nicolajane.com (but they have over 40 locations across the UK).

Good luck with your search.

Hi wibbles,

Thanks for posting.

It’s understandable that you are worried about finding a suitable bra following your surgery for breast cancer given your eczema and latex allergy.

The type of bra you need may change as time goes on after surgery as the skin and nerves heal. Initially you may have some swelling which can take some weeks to settle down.

Our general advice on bras after breast surgery may be helpful.

As your breast care nurse has suggested a pocket inside a bra would allow you to wear a breast form without it coming in to contact with your skin. You can also purchase pockets which you can sew into a suitable cotton bra yourself and this may make it easier to find something suitable. Some of the suppliers will provide customised made to measure bras or will sew in a pocket for you. You could contact them directly to request a latex free, seamless bra and / or pocket. We have a list of suppliers of bras, prostheses, clothes and swimwear which you can find by following the link. Some of them provide a custom made service.
