Loose teeth

So far, i have had one cycle of FEC and 2 of my molars in the lower jaw have become loose.

I have googled this and there are many people who have lost teeth during chemo.

I was never told this could be a side effect and am very worried that I am going to be toothless as well as bald. FEC 2 is on Wednesday.

My teeth were in good healthy condition, but now these 2 molars are aching a bit and wobbly.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Pixie.

Hi Pixie

I hadn’t heard about this SE. I guess I am about 2 weeks behind you with chemo and haven’t experienced many SE’s yet.

Have you talked to your dentist since you noticed this? They will be able to reassure you or do something to help if its a gum irritation or something.

Also you could ask your nurse / onc tomorrow.

Hope your second FEC goes OK

I don’t have a dentist… Shocking I know. I read somewhere it’s best to get treatment needed pre chemo… I’m now in a race to find a dentist and get any treatment required soon lol

Otherwise like you I ay be toothless but I fear it’s my top front two… I’m going to be so pretty lol. X

I had a lot of dental problems during the second half of my FEC chemo, Pixie, but was not allowed to have dental treatment during that time because of the risk of infection with low white cell count. I had had a checkup before I started but to be fair I do have grotty teeth. The main tooth that caused problems was a root canal filled one that hurt and eventually did show signs of infection just after chemo. It all settled down then with antibiotics by mouth and a lotta time.
Good Luck!

I felt like all my teeth were loose days 2 - 6 of my docetaxel cycle it was really strange. They feel fine now im day 13 and i had forgotten about it. Will write it down now on my list…

Just wanted to say that I had my teeth checked before starting chemo and she prescribed a flouride toothpaste to use once a day (need to check though that it is okay to use with onc team).

Was scheduled for chemo today and had apt with onc prior to chemo. Told him about wobbly tooth. He looked at it, wobbled it, cancelled my chemo, gave me industrial strength anti-biotics and said to get to dentist immediately.

Am so upset, no-one told me that chemo would ruin my teeth. Going to dentist romorrow and worried he may pull what was a perfectly good molar less than a week ago and i will pay hundreds of pounds for the privilege.

Onc said it is a se of chemo, albeit an uncommon one. I have only had one cycle of FEc so really worried what is going to happen to my teeth by the end.

Chemo rescheduled for 1st June as have to be infection free and completely healed if i have extraction.

What a cruel disease this is, causing us to have treatment that hurts us so much.

Usually a perky bunny but just so upset about this… Grateful I can come here and get support.

Oh no! So sorry to hear that, Pixie. Perhaps they will consider changing the type of chemo or changing the doses.

Sending hugs xx
