Hi
today i have just lost my two big toemails and there is a liquid oozing out, any ideas of whast i shoud do.
i finished my chemo on 26 April and am due to start my rasdio on 9th june
Hi,
Clean them with warm soapy water and then keep them covered and dry. You need to have someone look at them in case you need antibiotics so ask for an urgent appointment at your doctors tomorrow. It is fairly normal to lose toenails with chemo but rare for them to be oozing.
Hope you soon get things sorted.

Hi Essexbird. I’ve had the same as you. Lost one big toenail but it wasn’t weepy and one small nail which was also dry. The other big toenail was weepy as were many of my fingernails. I bathed them in warm salt water as this draws out any infection and keeps them clean. Just cover with a dry dressing robkeep it clean and also so it doesn’t catch on anything. I had to change the dressings in my fingers frequently as it’s very difficult when washing hands but you dont need to change the toe dressings so often. If they get v painful and the redness extends up the toe you may need antibiotics but you should be ok with the salt water.

Hi Essexbird, I had a pseudomonas infection under the dead nail on my big toe. It was really oozy and didn’t smell nice. I had povadine dressing and cream to clear the infection up. It made my white blood cell count go through the roof! I managed eventually to pull the nail off and it got better. I had the same thing happen on the other foot but the nail stayed fixed at the base so I’ve been pushing cream under the loose bit of nail which seems to work. Warm salty water foot baths are good for cleaning them as well. Lou x
omg its absolutely revolting isnt it,
i feel like that film the fly, lol,
my fingernails at the moment are going rotten, on my right hand the middle finger and ring finger are oozing and stink, they have both been swollen to about 3 times their normal size, with black haematomas under both,
well i went to the hospital to be told i needed a blood transfusion, and because i was neutropenic they gave me anti biotics for the nails,
yesterday and today, they burst, omg i nearly threw up, lol,
this is absolutely gross.
glad to hear i am not the only one going mouldy,
all the very best to everyone love liz xxx
Hello everyone,
I’ve also got problems with my big toenails and I finished chemo at the end of September. These side effects just go on and on. My nails fit the description of very weepy and really stinky My GP gave me antibiotics to take if my toes get inflamed and infected. Just waiting for the nails to come off at the moment though it’s been 4 weeks since the problem started.
Have been wearing sandals and keeping my toes uncovered so they can hopefully dry. Not a pleasant sight though
Wishing everyone a speedy return to normal toenails
