lorazapam

hi
dr has prescribed a few of these for me and im so scared of taking them!!
im to take 1 today to see how it makes me feel
1 tomorrow before i go for chemo
and 1 after(i think ive got that right
he has said i cant drive
i might feel dizzy
will i feel sick? as this is what we are trying to stop

i have visions of taking one this evening and not being able to look after my child lol
anyone shed some light for me
just shows how anxious i get about stuff dosnt it lol

i dont think im going to take them

I have taken lorazepam in the past and it doesn’t make you too sleepy. It just ‘chills’ you out. I was on it for severe anxiety and it helped me. I had no nausea on it either. Take the one today to see how it makes you feel. Worth a try anyway. Take care

I took these for the last two cycle - I think they are just a ‘chill pill’ for anxiety - I couldn’t really feel any difference and I didn’t get any side effects. I don’t think I was particularly anxious, other than the general dread of chemo, so not sure they were the right thing for me, they certainly did no harm and I will probably take them again.

good luck
Helen

Hi there

lorazapam is prescribed to help with anticipatory nausea. If you’ve had a bad experience with sickness then you go into the chemo unit expecting it - I certainly did!

I didn’t like the way lorazapam made me feel. I took half a tablet the day before to try it out which is something you could do? What other meds are they going to give you for sickness?

hi there
he didnt say which anti sick etc i was having this time, they will all be different to last time as they didint work at all!!!

I was very sick the first cycle so the onc prescribed it for me one the night before and one before i go and it certainly seemed to have helped

Hi there,

I was hospitalised for sickness after my first chemo. I was prescribed lorazapem for the two chemos I have had subsequently and I have to say they have worked for me.

I take one the night before chemo and this gives me a great nights sleep, then I take one an hour before chemo on the day.

If you are anxious (as I was after my shocking experience first time round) it can really help. Anxiety heightens nauseau and the lorazapem relaxes you.

I stop taking lorazapem the day after chemo as apparently they can become addictive.

I have three children and it hasn’t affected my ability to cope with them during the day.

Hope this helps

Hi Lincs Lady

I took lorazapam for anti-sickness on the first cycle of chemo when all the other pills failed. Then I was prescribed it as a pre-med to help with the nerves. I couldn’t drive but it certainly helped.

all the best Wizz
