Losing weight - Celebrity Slim?

Hi everyone

I have been left after treatment with a 2 stone weight gain and I am finding it really hard to knuckle down and lose it. I work in admin at a local hospital and a couple of the advanced paractioner nurses have started the above weight loss programme with fantastic results.

Finally I have relented and bought a weeks supply. I started yesterday with all the usual reservations, ‘can I do this after bc’, ‘is this safe for someone who has had bc?’ and on and on…

I just wanted to know if anyone has tried this diet even for a couple of weeks?

Thank you.

I’m finding it really difficult to lose weight as well. After I finished treatment I was confirmed as post menopausal at 46 and it just does not seem to shift.

For the past year I have been on an NHS programme called Counterweight that’s running in my area. I have pretty much stuck to about 1800 cals a day + 170 for extras which is made up of a certain number of portions of carbs, fruit, veg etc every day; I use the 170 cals for the odd biscuit or piece of choc and I write everything down. I have only had the odd lapse when I’ve been really busy with work, but I’ve got back on track again. I also do an hour of yoga up to 5 days a week and I go walking (I don’t drive either). All that has happened is I yo-yo back and forwards with the same 5 - 7 lbs. I can’t actually think of anything else I can cut out of my diet tbh as I don’t believe in cutting out entire food groups and I don’t eat anything like cheese either, I’ve even cut down on portions.

I just don’t understand my lack of weight loss as I thought I would have shed the 2st by now. I can only assume it is down to the menopause and this is what they tell me when I get weighed.

I can recommend

Sparkpeople.com it’s free!
I have been using this in conjunction with Change One (Readers Digest)
Basically you are re-educating yourself starting out with breakfast - you change one thing each week.

I’ve lost 13 pounds in 8 weeks!

I also do Walk Away The Pounds workouts online, check Youtube

Good luck with your weight loss

Thanks - I’ll check those 2 things out when I get a minute! Thankfully I have 2 very active walking hols coming up in the autumn which I hope will kick start things a bit.

I go to Weight Watchers and have lost 2 stones since February. It has been very slow but steady and I do recommend it.You can do it on-line if you dont fancy meetings.
good Luck

I was going to weightwatchers when I was diagnosed, and have continued throughout treatment, despite some ups and downs with the steroids and possibly Tamoxifen I am now 10lbs less than I was at the start of treatment in Jan and have lost 3 stone overall since last Sept.
I would recommend Weightwatchers as it is not faddy, and is simply a well balanced, healthy diet so fine at any point during your treatment or after. Just be patient as it isn’t a quick fix.

I have also lost just over 3 stones with Weightwatchers. I also do loads of exercise, usually about 2 hours a day, including swimming, aqua aerobics, pilates, aerobics, and gym sessions. I wasn’t losing weight consistently by dieting alone but the exercise really helps.

I try to do up to an hour of yoga in the mornings Mon - Fri. In my case I have to find exercise that I enjoy doing. Over the years I’ve tried jogging, power walking and step aerobics and hated all of them! When I lived on the edge of London I went to a very small gym 3 times a week for treadmill and weight training stuff which I quite enjoyed, but the gyms near me now are huge and a bit intimidating. I don’t really want to be with skinny women posing in designer lycra and the gyms I’ve looked at seem to be like that. As I don’t drive I’m constantly looking for local things to participate in. The church hall round the corner has Tai Chi twice a week, so I’m going to check that out for the autumn.

I’m near an ice rink and haven’t skated for more than 30 years, so I’m considering having a go over the winter. I’ve also just bought a lightly weighted hula hoop which comes apart as I thought it would be fun to have a go to some disco music. OH plays in a 10 pin bowling league, but I find it affects my upper arm and shoulder on my bad side. Last time I played I was in pain for about a fortnight after - a shame, as I used to really enjoy it.

Anne, as a matter of interest, how do you manage to fit in 2 hours a day?

Cherub - I decided to retire in May so now I start each day by going to the gym. Before I retired I had started to work part time so I went on my days off and weekends. Sometimes I used to go on my way to work maybe for half an hour, but did find this tiring although better than going after work.

It has made a big difference not only to my weight but I feel energised by the exercise and my creaky joints (from Aromasin) are much better. I also felt uncomfortable to start with as there were so many super fit people there but as I have joined weekday daytime classes, gradually increasing the number and variety that I do, I have met lots of people more like me!

It was practical for me to take early retirement because I’m not too far off the usual age for NHS staff to retire, but obviously it’s not an option for lots of people on this site.

I’ve heard they have opened a gym up near me that’s geared up more for people who aren’t very young or superfit. As I have some time off in September I’m going to check out the facilities - if I plan things out properly I’d like to be able to fit a few daytime things in as I work from home. There is a certain level of flexibility to my day when we don’t have too many projects on.

About 18 months ago I was going to yoga first thing on Monday mornings. I gave it up because all the ladies were about 20 years older than me and as they had been going for ages it was a bit of a clique. They did ask me to stay for coffee with them and I did a few times, but I felt very out of place with them. It’d be nice to find something with people of my own age, but I’m limited to my local area as I don’t drive (also the bus services are not great) and there’s not a lot on here.

Several of the ladies I have met are older than me but there are others that I assume are of a similar age and a few younger so it is quite mixed. I have to drive wherever I go as we don’t have any public transport at all where I live but the gym is only about 4 miles away which is quite convenient. I hope you can find somewhere that suits you soon as I really find it makes such a difference. We went for a fabulous walk yesterday that was new to me but only about a mile away. There was a lot of up hill walking so I am sure it was very good for me! The views were amazing.
