I am now on my fifth Chemo one more to go woo hooo…
However I was just wondering I was diagnosed in January and had WLE and MX and clearence and started my Chemo April time.
Since Dx I have been losing weight - very gradually though but when I weighed myself again today noticed another 2lbs off - so all in all I have lost nearly 2 stone since January.
I am not trying to lose weight, I am eating fairly well and having good meals every day. My diet has changed somewhat though, firstly because I decided I needed to eat a bit healthier but secondly with Chemo there are things that I just can’t eat ie Milk, Cheese, Yoghurts etc (general dairy stuff) and Alcholol makes me feel sick. So apart from the very very occassional glass of red wine to get my bloods up (1 per cycle) thats all I am having. I am eating cakes and chocolates though i seem to crave for sweetness!!
I am also tending to eat a lot more Chicken as its easier to digest, I am eating far more fruit and I do have pasta, rice, potatoes etc.
I suppose I am worried that despite doing minimal exercise (I don’t have the energy at the moment) and despite my healthy appetite my weight is dropping off. I have got the the stage when I need to buy a smaller size in clothes.
Is this anything to worry about? I havn’t mentioned it to my Onc or anyone but wondered if maybe there is something else going on that I need to be aware of. I notice from this site that most people tend to put weight on rather than lose it?
I lost 2 stone when on chemo, I put it down to eating better, A lot of the junk food didn’t taste very nice. I had a smaller appetite as well. I was over weight before I started so the weight loss made me feel better about everything else that was going on. I think some ladies put on weight as a result of the steriods, but not everyone will have that side effect to them.
It does sound like your diet change could account for it, just giving up dairy and alcohol can account for a lot of calories. But why not mention it to your onc just for peace of mind.
I lost weight during chemo, mainly with Tax when everything tasted so disgusting I couldn’t eat much at all, in fact between 1st & 2nd Tax I lost about 10lbs which my nurses weren’t really happy about. After chemo I completely lost my appetite & continued to lose weight but am now eating normally. I didn’t crave sweet stuff at all, although a lot of people do seem to, & in fact from being a life-long chocaholic I found that the taste for chocolate was the slowest to go back to normal, & although I can now eat & enjoy chocolate, I am not addicted to it as I was formerly. However, after 6 months on Arimidex, I am now noticing a definite ‘softening’ in the tummy & hip areas, & while I don’t feel any heavier my shape is definitely altering in a way I don’t like.
i have lost weight since dx, much of it from stress and anxiety meaning i havent eaten well, compounded by loss of appetite due to nausea and altered sense of taste under chemo. This continued through 3 fec and for first tax, until 3 days ago i suddenyl put on 4 or 5 pounds ! Not eaten any differently, so will be mentioning it to my onc. Have mentioned my weight loss lots of time and no concern really, but its prob worth you mentioning it so you can hear the same for yourself!
