Has anyone experienced low blood sugars while on vinorelbine? I have always had low blood sugars off and on. Might happen every few months. Have always noticed if I eat pancakes and syrup that about an hour later I have the shakes. The last two weeks plus today after I get home from my chemo treatment I have had the shakes. I used my husbands monitor to test and my blood sugar was in the lower range. It was between 50 to 55 all three times. Funnyface
Hi Funnyface
Haven’t had this experience (a sad lack of Aunt Jemima over here in the UK!), but wondered if you might be experiencing especially low blood sugar from your chemo? The Cancer Backup website mentions a number of possible side effects for vinorelbine (have a look at their webpage about vin at cancerbackup.org.uk/Treatments/Chemotherapy/Individualdrugs/Vinorelbine#5303). And the post-pancakes + syrup shakes might also relate to low blood sugar, i.e. if your body can’t deal with the amount of sugar in that meal.
Maybe ask your onc about this? Hope you solve the mystery!
Love, Marilyn xx
Hi Marilyn, I know that the sugar let down from the pancake syrup is a hypoglycemic reaction. I have learned a few things. Dehydration can cause low blood sugars too. It has been terribly hot over here so I’m going to drink more too. I will see what happens next time I go for chemo. My onc is very funny about saying something is a side effect. I know vinorelbine can cause fatigue and I told my onc I was very tired when I first started this and he said well it’s not from vinorelbine. Grrr!! When I go for chemo next time I will make sure I take a pack of peanut butter crackers. NO pancake syrup in the UK?? Funnyface
