Lump and lymph node biopsy

Hi there. Just over two weeks ago I found a lump in my left breast, lower inner side. Saw my GP the next day who referred me. I’m back from my appointment today where I had a mammogram and ultrasound. I had a physical exam two days earlier, couldn’t have scan then because the mammogram machine malfunctioned!!

Anyway, Dr at physical exam suggested lump was likely not suspicious but obviously couldn’t confirm without scans. Today i had my mammogram first, the team were unable to give any indications from that (is that because it looked bad or they weren’t qualified to?). During the ultrasound the lump was very clear and I was told I needed a biopsy. They also took a biopsy of my lymph nodes under my left arm. I asked if the latter was concerning, the Dr said he was dotting Is and crossing Ts. But I’m really scared they did the biopsy on the lymph node too.

Drs described my lump as smooth and movable. During the wait since noticing it, I have felt it larger at ovulation, reduce then increase again as my period started. Which after googling those symptoms sound promising (I know people say not to but how can you not!!!). But, now I’ve had to have biopsies in both areas, I’m fearing the worst.

Can anyone share similar experiences, good or bad please?

I can’t share experiences as I’m at the same point as you, but just wanted to say good luck and my goodness doesn’t the waiting suck.

Thank you and you too. How long have you been waiting now?

It’s been a week since the biopsy, and I thought they’d said they’d ring me with the results yesterday, but instead I they contacted me yesterday to give me a telephone appointment in another two and a half weeks, (so I’m obviously discarding the possibility that I misheard and am instead catastrophising and assuming that it’s because it’s bad news).

The appointment is literally on the morning of the day I go away on a 3 week holiday and I’m going a bit mad trying to plan for what I do if it’s bad news and they can’t give me any timescales for what happens next - go on the holiday and rush back if I end up with an earlier than expected appointment or what. Given I originally found the lump in January (albeit not the one that eventually got biopsied) and every stage has been delayed I should probably just go on the holiday! I really wish I’d used the private health cover I get through work - I’d know one way or the other by now, but I just didn’t think of it and kept expecting to be told I was being a drama queen and that it was nothing to worry about.

Anyway, hope your biopsy sites aren’t too sore and best of luck

Oh no, that’s a cruel amount of time to keep you waiting. Hopefully it’s an indication that there’s nothing serious though, surely they’d not let you wait so long otherwise. I hope you have a lovely holiday and please let me know how you get on. Take care

@foundalump hi, so sorry you are in this situation. I don’t want to give any false hope as your biopsy could of course go either way. However, I wanted to share my experience. I’m very lumpy and have had two lumps checked previously. They were how you describe yours, and they were just cysts. My lump that is cancerous (IDC) feels very different - it’s hard, irregular and immovable. The wait is the worse bit, I’ve got everything crossed that it’s nothing sinister. Remember to keep us posted xxx
