Hi I’m new here. Very concerned left breast felt uncomfortable under seat belt on Thursday by Friday morning it was very painful with a big lump behind nipple. Couldn’t get a drs appointment till Tuesday. By Saturday it was horrendously sore. I was thinking abscess yet again, so got appointment with out of hours doctor, who said he thought it was breast ectasia (I think) and I needed a gp referral to breast clinic. Saw gp yesterday offered no diagnosis, and I didn’t ask, but looked at it and said would refer me. I was rung this morning with appointment for next Thursday. I looked at my online medical records to see what they had said they thought it was. Shocked to see referred for suspected breast cancer. I’m absolutely numb and confused. Surely cancer can not just pop up overnight the pain is still awful. The next week is going to be horrid, just want to cry and curl up in a ball, impossible to do with a 12year old and my kitchen being replaced and don’t want to frighten the workmen off, but struggling with it all. Suffer from anxiety not sure how I will get through this week as I worry about everything. Kaykoo
…& breathe, Kaykoo.
It’s quite usual for any breast change to be referred this way under the 2 week rule. Only the breast clinic can get to the bottom of it & no GP would be able to give a definitive answer, so it’s normal to be referred this way, although of course, it can feel very alarming.
It’s highly unlikely to be anything serious, but only the breast clinic can say so.
You’ve done all you need to for now, it can help with the wait to carry on as normal, keep busy & avoid google, as any search will lead to bc, when it normally isn’t, so creating a whole shed load of unnecessary anxiety.
It’s far more likely that it’s due to a far more common reason & for the vast majority of women, it turns out to be all ok.
Let us know how you get on
