Lump? In armpit

I have found a small lump in my armpit but no other symptoms like inverted nipples. It is very close to the skin surface and looks like it could be a spot but it’s been there a couple of weeks and doesn’t seem to be coming to a head or anything. It isn’t painful like a spot either.

I do have some family history. My mum had breast cancer, one of her sisters had it in both breasts and the other had ovarian cancer, but they were all in their 70’s.

I found a tiny lump in my breast just before Christmas 2010 but luckily it was just breast tissue but I did feel like I had made a fuss about nothing. I don’t want to do that again. My husband was a wreck!

Should I get it checked out now or see if it goes in a couple of week or so?
Thanks

Thanks in advance for your replies

Hi Squizz

They do have a way of making you feel like a complete nuisance, don’t they! I think if you are worrying about it then perhaps go to see the GP, or at least phone someone with clinical knowledge.
Good luck!

Go to your GP. Your lump is not likely to be cancer, (most are not) but better to get it checked out. do not be put off by thinking you are bothering them. It is their job. Put your mind at rest, make the appointment now. Hope it goes well, and that it is nothing at all xx

The two-week rule is a good guideline. Anything that’s not gone or improved in 2 weeks is worth getting checked, especially with your family history. make sure you mention that to GP to remind him/her that you’re NOT fussing about nothing.

More than likely it is just an inflamed lymph gland, but it’s always best to be on the safe side. In the unlikely event it is cancer, the sooner you start treatment the better the prospects!!

Good luck and don’t forget to come back and tell us, we’ll be thinking of you, and will be here to celebrate with you or support you as necessary!

Hi Squizz,
If your worried then check it out,but I had a lump in my armpit about 4 mths ago, peasized, quite hard and I had scan on it.They didnt say what it was but that it didnt show up on scan(although they could feel it because it is very near the surface) so its nothing to worry about. Its still there, same size, painless and unless theres a big change in it I can forget its there, hopefully yours will turn out be just as harmless,
Good luck,Di.x

Thanks everyone. I have an appointment with the nurse practitioner tomorrow for my pill review so I will talk to her about it. I do have an appointment with the family history clinic on the 11th September so if I am still worried I will tell them about it then. one minute I’m telling myself it’s nothing and the next thing I’m thinking the worst at the moment. Don’t want to tell my husband because he will panic but I will tell him if it’s not gone by the time I go to hospital because he would never forgive me if I tried to cope on my own.
