Hi All,
feel like world coming in on me. My scar and breast has been itchy, noticed this evening that there is a small hard lump on the scar. Not sure how long its been there as with having a hickman line in the other breast area I wear a bra constantly (other than showering) and even when showering I am so concentrated on cleaning around the line I don’t really pay attention to the cancer breast.
I am worried - either reoccurance or skin mets??? any ideas or experiences?? the other breast seems to of grown and very itch - but could be related to hickman.
very worried though.
Vicky
Hi Vicky, sorry to hear you are having this scare. I have to say my scar itched quite a bit and there were various lumps and bumps as it healed, none of which were a problem thankfully. However I would definately talk to your team about it, hopefully they can put your mind at rest.
Best of luck
Nikki
Thanks Nikki,
My op was October had WLE so exected it to be ok now. Am having Chemo at the moment - started in december and due to end in June. Will call BCN tomorrow I think to get some advice.
Vicky
well spoke to BCN and she thinks that its a stitch that has risen and its infected. I am concerned about this - I had op October 08 - why would I get an infection in a closed wound??? I am worried how this happened, plus how far could it go???
anyone understand this or have had it???
Not quite the same but i am over 2 weeks on after WLE and i have a number of lumps along the scar and its opened up in one place and out popped a stitch! The nurse said this isnt uncommon and pulled out two knots. she said the body keeps pushing the stitch up and up until it comes out as it is a foreign body. Perhaps your stitches never totally dissolved and its just taken your body time to push it up and out- its been busy fighting and surviving chemo after all?
my concern is that its 6 months since my surgery and I can’t see any stitch coming out. Thanks though - its one more thing they never told me about.
hope you are recovering well from your op.
I know it seems unlikely but those stitches can hang around if they dont dissolve as they are supposed to.
Keep an eye on it and if it becomes red or feels warm to touch or you feel unwell go to your GP. I am anti bios for that reason as they dont want the wound to totally open. nice!
I am recovering ok. Got nerve pain under my arm up to my shoulder and the scar is pretty disgusting!
Oh gosh sound awful!!!
My scar is great - no opening and the lump is not painful although the breast is painful and itchy. I am going to see BCN tomorrow and see what she says - I am so scared its going to put back my chemo as only have 2 more to go!!! after starting chemo in december its been a long haul.
take care
vicky
you take care too.
Seeing the BCN is best- mine was very matter of fact with the damn hole in my scar! Seen it all i guess!
not too keen on my BCN - she is very off hand with everything - I know they have seen everything but I haven’t and they seem to forget that. she didn’t even explain what a hickman line was as she told everyone I was having one - not even asked if I wanted one… goodness how she will be with me tomorrow.
I think they can be a bit matter of fact.
The one i saw wasnt my usual one thankfully as she was a bit old school scary! You can always ask to change nurses- as a patient we have rights in regards to our care.
Good luck
x
well its as she said - she cut it and out came the infection. great eh - can’t believe that after 6 months my scar is infected. only very small though. She was really great with me - must of read my post!! haha… Its still lumpy but expect will take time to calm down.
thanks again = hope you are ok,
oh thats quite good i guess- at least it wasnt anything sinister. It is probably your treatment slowing your healing time down.
I am ok. Got my results from pathology today. Grade 3, stage 2a, 20mm big. ER positive. No lymph involvement. Will need chemo, radio, tamoxifen for five years and potentially zolodex injections! the works.
Got ONC appt on 10th june so will know more about chemo then.
Great year ahead huh?!
Wow, thats what I felt like too - it felt like a shopping list I cam out with.
mine was grade 3 but only stage 1 1.8cm hormone + and onc said hormone therapy for poss 10 years!! what fun that will be. my poor hubby he has no idea whats in store for him.
I am really tired today and lump still there so expecting to see the stitch soon - hopefully. they didn’t give me any antibiotic so hope am ok for chemo on tuesday - hope to find out when rads starts on tuesday. its taken so long to get to the end of chemo but nearly there. good luck with you onc app and thanks for your support. don’t know what I would do without this website and the people on it.
thanks again and hope you get through the treatment as best as can be.
vicky
you too! what a journey huh?
I have just pulled a 2cm bit of thread out of my scar!! Hope it will heal now!!
