Hi there. Sorry to hear that things haven’t gone as you hoped for. I am in a similar situation in that the initial lumpectomy removed a 2cm tumour, but this revealed a wider area of DCIS or precancerous cells that needed to come out too. I opted for a mastectomy rather than go back potentially several times until a clear margin was achieved. It was a difficult decision but the surgery went fine and I was in no more discomfort than when I had the first surgery.  From what I have read on this forum it is not unusual to end up having a second surgery, so even though you may be feeling despondent now, try to think of it as the best option for you, and also to bear in mind that surgeons are geniuses with reconstruction these days if you decide to have it. I opted not to for now as I need chemo and maybe radiotherapy but haven’t ruled it out.  The most important thing is to get rid of those lumps and get you on the road to recovery, so I hope this has offered you a little reassurance as I understand how you are feeling, but am really glad now that I had the mastectomy.  Take care of yourself and please feel free to ask me any questions. Jo. X
