Lumpectomy looming. Need advice please

Hi there. This is my first post and I wondered if anyone could offer me advice. I had two biopsies which revealed a benign lump and dcis in another part of my breast. My surgeon advised lumpectomy To remove the dcis. I have asked BCN if it would be possible to have the lump removed during this procedure then any future doubts or concerns about it changing are removed. My surgeon has asked to see me tomorrow. I think this is to dissuade me as I have small breasts and it could be even more disfiguring…
Have any other ladies had the same dilemma? Could anybody help me to iron out my thinking as I am really keen to get this removed but feel that I may be persuaded otherwise. Also I have found another lump nearby the one already there and I think if I mention this they will think I am a total paranoid nutcase.
I have only recently started on this website and reading other posts has helped allay some of my fears. may I wish all you lovely ladies well.

Hi Amanda,
I had a lumpectomy in May, my boobs are really small, but at the moment they don’t look any different , just feel sore. But even if one does end up looking a bit dented or anything i’m not bothered as I would rather it look a bit funny than still have the lump there. I would raise your concerns with the consultant, and also mention the other lump you have found - they won’t think you’re being paranoid, its their job to do what is best for you. Once you speak to them they should be able to explain everything better.
Take care

Hello Amanda,
I had snb ans lumpectomy in May also. I’ve very small breasted and the affected breast now has a dent on the underneath section that goes pretty much the width of the breast. I had a high grade dcis ans although they took a lump of 13g they disn’t get clear enough margins so am having a mx on the coming wed with immediate reconstruction and augmentation on right breast so they mag h again.it’s not an easy decision to make but having a further lumpectomy would not only leave my left breast very awkwardly shaped bit the consultant couldn’t be positive it had affected nipple so best from me to remove all the affected area and at least my mind can rest.

I agree with Faye about mentioning the New lump, it’s best to get that checked and sorted as soon as possible and don’t worry about them thinking your paranoid…your not but you have every right to be concerned considering what else has been going on. I often feel like I’m bothering the consultant and nurses with silly questions but that’s what they ate there for.hope your apt went well today for you.take care Laura x

Hello Laura and Faye. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. It is much appreciated. i went to see the surgeon this morning. He was lovely and patient so I worried needlessly. He explained that I was prone to cysts (having had one drained three times in other boob over the last 3 years) he said that before the advances in screening they were operated on straight away only to find another grows. That is how it will be for me until I hit menopause So they advised to leave them. Also he explained I will be closely monitored and screened in the future, however if a lump appears to ring my BCN to arrange to go in ( bypassing all the free feral facing around)
although it would have been lovely to have them removed too, I see the logic and reason behind their approach. Fingers crossed for Friday and the path results.
Faye- I hope you are back to normal now and fighting fit. The initial shock takes a while to recover from but I hope you have got your life back on track and have lovely things planned for the future.
Laura- I wish you the very best of luck for weds. I know quite a few ladies who had mx. My aunt included and that was 20 years ago. I’m sure your team is as brilliant as mine and you’ll have the very best of care. With a bit of luck we may have a good summer so you can recuperate outdoors. How nice would that be!..
take care ladies. Stay positive and thanks again

Hi Amanda, - any lump needs looking at. At my first diagnosis of DCIS everyone was so positive, almost all the medical team I saw assurred me ‘just a blib’, ‘a nuisance’ etc but after 3 lumpectomies I am now having a mastectomy on 2nd July. I can hardly sleep or function normally, always tearful and find myself looking at ladies boobs and envious even, knowing one of mine is going soon. I feel so let down, prefer to be given the worse case scenario rather than so positive and now this.

Good luck - hope all goes well for you.

i can’t imagine what you have been through. I too have a very positive prognosis. In fact my dcis was discovered by a chance maother or the other boob. I only had one last march so it really is a new growth that I couldn’t feel myself. I suppose the cysts make me a lucky girl!
I wish you the very best for the 2nd July. it must be difficult having already had 3 procedures already but stay with the positive. I will keep in touch on the community boards. Fingers crossed eh?
Kindest regards
