Lumpectomy tomorrow

Tomorrow’s surgery is almost here so feel happy as I have hit another milestone. As some of you already know after 2 rounds of code biopsies, I’ve still puzzled my MDT as to why the appearance of my lump contradicts the ‘normal/moderate’ biopsy results. It’s being removed tomorrow for more detailed inspection and they’re planning on checking a margin around it. It’s measuring 3cm on ultrasound so hopefully not too difficult a procedure. Booking in at 11.30 with surgery planned for the afternoon. They said I should be ok to go home the same day. I’ve told my 6 year old Im getting my poorly shoulder fixed (he would tell the world if I mentioned boob) so he isn’t to jump on me when I come home (or wrestle which is the norm ha ha) Im a little nervous but happy it’s finally being removed which is a step forward. It be sent for testing then the wait for results as to whether I will need any further treatment.
I’m taking a sports bra with me for after surgery and a pillow for journey home. I’ve removed all nail polish so think I’m all sorted. On day surgery, do you wear pjs or just your normal clothes? Booklet says both but not planning on hanging around so wondering whether thats just a standard one for overnight stays too? Getting up early for my light breakfast of toast before 7am so just hoping I can get some sleep. Kay xx

Best of luck tomorrow KayZee9. I’ve got my pre op on Thursday and my lumpectomy and SNB on the 11th May.

I would bring slippers and a dressing gown if I were you. I’ve had a couple of procedures for other things in my Day Surgery unit and that is what they ask us to bring. I’m staying in overnight as I live alone. I’ve got to be there at 7.00am! Having a wire put in before op.

Best wishes and please let us know how you got on.

Thanks for the advice Haz I’m better taking them so I have them just in case. I had my pre op on 26th April and forgot to ask the nurse. Wow you have to be there early. I’m in for afternoon surgery slot so not such an early start. Happy I can fit the schools run in first. I’ll report back with my experience after the op. Take care Kay xx

Thanks for the reply Charys. I’m up now and slept pretty well. Hubby said the same when he went for a hernia op. He didn’t take his own dressing gown so had to wear a paper one so will definitely take one. Wearing some ballerina pumps to go so will have them and my clean slippers so will check out the walk first before I choose my footwear ? Hope you’re recovering well after yours. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Kay xx

I had to walk through the hospital wearing my pink fluffy dressing gown and black Clarks shoes as I didn’t think I would need slippers ,was not a glamorous look !!!Take a pillow or cushions for return journey to protect your chest from the seatbelt.Good luck ,you will feel a lot better once it is over and hopefully they have got rid of the bugger.Jill.

Yes I felt like that too wandering around in my dressing gown and shoes when everyone else was in their normal clothes!!!

Sounds like you could be on to something Jill with your pink fluffy dressing gown and clarks shoes. I nipped to asda and bought some hard soled grey and pink slippers - just incase. Used my dressing gown and slippers to pop to the loo when on the ward waiting to go down to surgery and pleased I had them. The lady next tp me had to negotiate the corridor holding the back of her gowm in her trainers so she was saying she wished she had the advice Id had.
Checked in at 11.30 but had to wait til 3.30 to go down to surgery. Came back to the ward after recovery by 7 and was home by 9. Felt very fuzzy and had pain when I first woke up but a shot of morphine in my cannula soon sorted that out. Really enjoyed my tea and toast (best ever) and dozed until hubby came to help me get dressed. Bought 2 soft and comfy bras from asda £6 each. Excellent buy! My dressing is flesh coloured with a hole cut out for nipple. I have dissolvable stitches so won’t need them out which is good. Been told I have to keep the dressing on for 5 to 7 days and dry. I can take a shallow bath just need to make sure I don’t get it wet. They didn’t discuss how to op went or anything. Discharge note just says awaiting results in the treatment plan section. Waiting game now but one step closer. Took codeine before bed and managed to sleep right through from 11pm until 5.30am. Probably the best sleep I’ve had since beginning of March! Been told just to rest up for a couple of days but amazed at how well I feel today. Thanks for the advice ladies. Kay xx
