Hi all, Before my op tomorrow. Im having tonight a wire put into my breast, then tomorrow of to a different hospital to have a NM injection, then a NM Sentinel node localisation & imaging
This is my second time, having had BC 14 years ago, in the other breast, which was a masectomy.
Anyone else had the above procedures ? 14 years ago none of this was around ? feeling nervous.
Hello Hoarder, that’s rotten having to go through this rubbish a second time. Sounds the same as I had 2 years ago - had one hospital in the morning, and then to my local in the afternoon. I had a WLE (or lumpectomy) - are you having that? It is a much much smaller op than the mastectomy, so can be got over pretty quickly - in fact I was out later that day. Lots of love for you tomorrow - and today - and the day after etc etc! :cathappy:xxx
Hi Hoarder, I had a lumpectomy last week and whilst I didn’t have the wire I did have the NM injection on the morning of my op (couldn’t have it day before because I only returned from holiday the day before procedure). The NM injection takes seconds, it stings for a few seconds but is over very quickly and no where near as bad as I was expecting. Wishing you the very best for tomorrow and for the journey ahead. Lou xx
BTW the radioactive injection stings like a bee sting and the blue dye makes your wee go blue/green for a day or two.
I had an allergic reaction to both injections, I was given piriton in between both injections as had red and hot hives on my torso and arms. Just mention it to a nurse if you have it so they can deal with it.
Hello, I had the very same procedure as you are having in August. It was fine and recovery was good. The anxiety about the procedure was worse than the actual thing itself. I hope all goes well tomorrow and I will keep you in my thoughts. Mary xxx
Hi, I had my lumpectomy last May. I arrived at hospital at 7.00am. Was taken to another department for my radioactive dye, then back to another department to have my wire put in, had my lumpectomy early afternoon and three nodes removed. My surgeon said they remove the nodes that had turned blue with the dye. That’s how my hospital does it anyway. When I woke up the wire was no longer there.
I think it depends if the hospital where you are having your surgery also has a nuclear? radioactive? department, if not, then that would be the reason some women have to travel to different hospitals.
It really was fine and I was not in a lot of pain afterwards although I was given strong painkillers to take home with me but I didn’t need them. I did have some pain when I first came round from the anesthetic but they quickly gave me pain relief through my iv and it was much better.
My breast is still slightly torquise a year on although I was told that this may be the case.
I expect it will be a lot easier than your mastectomy and you will be up and around much more quickly.
Good luck and don’t forget to do your exercises afterwards. :smileyhappy:
Hi hoarder, how crappy for you! Just read your post and hope it has gone well for you. I believe BC research has moved things on a million miles, so do hope this time it’s easier for you. Sending you a big hug. X
