Im.taking my dressings off tomorrow and ive just looked in the mirror and noticed how lumpy my breast is and swollen. I was just wandering if anyone else has experienced this after surgery and how long it lasted for. Thankyou xxx
Hi Sarahjane
When I had wide excision and lymph node removal I thought mine looked lumpy and swollen , but it did settle down I wore zip up postop bra which helped with swelling you don’t say when you go back to hospital if worried contact your Bcn for advice wishing you well x
Thankyou for replying Charlotte, ive got to go back in 4 weeks for the results. My emotions are all over the place xxx
Hi Sarahjane
The waiting is the worst , have you been told what stage your cancer is or waiting for lumpectomy results , just try to keep busy I did think forum helped as we are all in the same club , take care think positive xx
I had my lumpectomy 20th s
December and my poor booby is still blue with a bruise and I have a lump under my scar.
I’m going to mention it to my oncologist when I see him next week cos Iam a little worried about it.
My tumour was picked up on a mammogram i never felt it from start to finish…so lumps are new to me.
Hi, it will get better in time. I had lumpectomy and about 6 months later, I could hardly notice any of the scars. Try not to worry. X
My breast wasn’t swollen particularly after surgery though I know this can happen but it felt lumpy around the lumpectomy scar for about 3 months and gradually settled down. However I know someone who is having scar massage for hardened lumpy tissue . If you feel gently you will get to know where the lumps are and be able check on them and hopefully they will gradually go down . It’s still worth mentioning at your follow up appointment though or to your BCN before that if you’re worried .
About 5 months after surgery and almost 3 months after radiotherapy I found a new lump which was also causing pain across my breast into my axilla and down my arm. Obviously I was worried but it turned out to be an oil cyst and settled down in its own time though occasionally they do need draining.
Wishing you all the best. Xx
I had a lumpectomy and two nodes removed, I am almost three weeks into recovery, the best news I had was everything was removed including the margins, and lymph nodes were clear, so clear of cancer, I removed my dressing last Wed and everything looked ok, just thought the breast was swollen and bruised from the operation, the bruising has gone, but today I noticed a red line from the top of my breast, 10-12cm in length, it doesn’t hurt, just feels sore to touch, my breast is very hard and swollen, and a bit lumpy, it’s not painful, has anyone else had this and does it go over time, my other breast is soft, but the operated one feels very hard.
Any information would be nice or if anyone else has experienced this.
Hi, hope you are recovering well. I had the same op last april followed by radiotherapy in July. I had a lumpy, bumpy boob almost immediately after and still is. I developed an additional lump in a completely different area a few months later. I reported this but was assured that lumpectomy and radiotherapy can cause all these lumps and bumps. You can always contact your nurse for reassurance. Hope this helps. Best wishes for your recovery x
Hello @poppy21
Being as your breast is feeling hard and there’s some redness I would contact your BCN and see if you can get them to see you and assess it in case there’s any infection / seroma / haematoma . It might be that nothing needs to be done and everything is ok but I think you should be seen and that is hey would probably want to see you . If my experience is anything to go by they will be less concerned about lumps and will be looking more at the swelling in your breast . Xx
Ok thank you, I will contact breast care unit tomorrow.
Thanks
Ann
Hello Joanne
I went back to the breast clinic, the lady who did my operation saw me, she had a feel and said we need to drain this fluid off, she said are you happy for me to go ahead, I said certainly, I didn’t feel the needle and it took a while, she drained off like two pints of beer, she said you had a big tumor, and now you will feel like a deflated balloon, it was such a relief and a few pounds lighter, yes I had a seroma, so fingers crossed it won’t come back.
Thank you for your advice.
Annx
You’re very welcome and that you’re feeling better . That is lot of fluid and I really hope it stays away. X
