Lumpy Tissue which the consultant wants to see me about ?

Morning,

I’m sure there’s loads of threads like this already but let me tell you where I’m at as it’s driving me round the bend.

I found a lump in my breast back in February and stupidly thought it was nothing so didn’t get it checked out until early May where they urgently referred me to the breast clinic as a lot of the criteria was ticked on their list that matched symptoms of breast cancer.

I went for an ultrasound scan and the radiographer said it was just lumpy tissue and nothing to worry about so I thought great thank god that’s over and done with.

Last week I had a letter saying the consultant wanted to see me about the results on 15th August so I called the hospital explaining What the radiographer had said and the consultants secretary said that they shouldn’t have said that as it’s the consultants job to discuss results and go through courses of treatment. They couldn’t elaborate further and now I’m terrified.

Deep down I think nothing’s wrong but I’m having so many nightmares about this.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Thank you x

Hi Jenni, did they do any other tests? If the radiographer didn’t see anything to worry about I wonder what the Consultant is basing his need to see you on?

Hi Jill1998

No I’m afraid no other tests have been done, it’s purely based on an ultrasound and he did his own check beforehand and measured lumps in my right and left breast to be around 5-6cm.

I’m pretty much in the dark x

Maybe he thinks that you have a benign breast condition that needs monitoring/treatment ?Not fair to leave you hanging like this .Do you have a good GP ?they often write to GP re results of consultations /tests .They maybe able to shed some light on what is going on.

Hmm maybe but it’s just out of the blue especially after the radiographer said its just lumpy tissue and nothing to worry about.

I did request a copy of the report and it came back with the following medical jargon which I don’t know if it makes any sense to you…

Normal sonographic appearances of both breasts. No mass lesion seen. A small reactive lymph node in each Axilla only.

I did have a fibroadanoma in my right breast 9 years ago (I’m now 30) however on recent examination, before the ultrasound, they actually confirmed a firm lump measuring 5x6cm in both breasts. This was all in the report which I guess you forget about if you’re initially given the all clear… X

May be worth posting this question /info in the ask the nurses section see if they can shed any light on that letter for you .Horrible being in limbo like that ,let us know how you get on .

Thanks so much, I have just posted in there and will keep you updated xx

Hi. I went for mammogram and ultra sound was told everything was OK now I’ve received a letter stating I have to see a consultant. Petrified as my sister has just finished her treatment for breast cancer. My family can’t be that unlucky.

Hope your OK

Xx

Hi, so sorry I’ve been late in posting an update but have been so busy.

Thankfully my consultant has given me the all clear but has kept me on a 12 month open appointment saying if anything changes in my breast to come straight back. It was just lumpy tissue and nothing to worry about.

I hope everything is ok with you Debapples and will keep everything crossed for you. You’re in the best possible hands xx
