Lymph node in neck. Mess for Daisypink

Lymph node in neck. Mess for Daisypink Hi Daisypink and anyone else who can help,

I have done chemo and rads, just have to continue with Heceptin. Question about lymph nodes in neck. About 2 weeks ago half way through rads while I was putting cream on my neck. I found a longish rubber like lump in my neck. It is above my collar bone and above the base of my neck. It longer than a finger nail and about a third of the thickness. It is soft and rubber like. It does not hurt and has not changed since I found it. It also appears to disappear into my neck rather than a swelling from a gland. I showed it to the nurse at the radiotherapy dept and she got one of the doctors to feel it. She checked my neck and collor bones and said everything felt normal but she could feel the lump. She did not think it was a lymph node but a blood vessel and has arranged for an ultra sound scan to put my mind at rest. I was wondering if other people or Daisypink if you read this post who have had lymph nodes in neck, what they feel like. I always thought they felt round rather than long. Any views would be helpful.

Hi
Could not bear the waiting any longer. I phoned the breast care nurse this morning and asked her if she could arrange for me to see the surgeon in his clinic today. She told me to go straight up and I only had to wait 45mins to be seen. He said it was a lymph node on top of a blood vessel but that he was 100% certain it was just a normal lymph node and not a recurrence. I asked him if he could be 110% sure to which he laughed and said yes. What a relief, it is just such a roller coster.

such a worry Hi Geraldine

Sorry for not replying sooner, ive only just seen this message…

I can understand how worried you have been about about finding this lump in the neck area…

I am pleased your surgeon had a look at you, did they do the ultrasound after all?

My lymph nodes in the clavicle area felt like a kidney bean and was tender to touch, like a deep bruise, if that makes sense.

Have you had rads to that area? Infections can also make your nodes pop up and appear bigger…

All I can say is is keep an eye on it, my onc first thought mine was related to an infection, it didnt go down so surgeon removed it for biopsy… if it doesnt feel normal… please make a nuisance of yourself… and go back if need be…

Dont want to scare you as your surgeon knows you obviously better than anyone, and everyone is different but you have to be vigiliant…

All the best

Mess for Daisypink Thank you so much for your post. I do have a nasty viral throat at the moment and the lymph node is about a quarter of the way up my neck, no where near my collar bone. The surgeon did say that it was not where he would expect to find a recurrence and it is not tender/bruised.
But of course you are totally right I will be keeping a craeful eye on it and if it does not resolve I will go back. I have had rads to the area and have just finished.

I read in one of your posts that you are now on Heceptin and it has reduced the lymph nodes. How often are you having the Heceptin, I am just about to have no 5. So pleased to hear it is helping. Let me know how it is going.

Thinking of you.

Hi Geraldine

Sounds like your infection may have bought the lymph node up. You were right to get it checked though and please do keep an eye on it.

I am having my 8th Herceptin tomorrow, i have to stay on it indefinatley. Good luck with your next one…

Keep in touch
