lymph node involvement

Hi all

Can I ask about lymph node involvement post operation. I had mx and 16 nodes removed, eight of which were affected and would be very interested to hear from ladies who have had similar experiences and their outcomes either recently or in the past

Thanks

Hi Mrs MC

I had 11 lymph nodes removed in Jan of which 3 were affected. This meant that I needed to have both chemo and rads. Chemo is over, will have more surgery on Tuesday as DCIS was found in margins, and rads to follow.

I think it likely that your treatment may be similar, but would suggest that when you talk about outcomes etc, that you do not necessarily read too much into what was another person’s outcome in similar circumstances. We are all different, and so are our cancers.

You can speak to your onc about possible outcomes, they will have figures if that is what you want. Mine told me that for me there is an 87% chance that I’ll be around in 10 years, which I think is pretty good odds

I’m a 15 affected out of 20 lady. Surgery (WLE and ANC), chemo, rads last year, and a 66% 5 year survival rate. 18 months gone - 42 to go to prove them wrong!

Hi Dotty

Don’t let it scare you. Lots of other things are involved in the formula the oncs use to come up with these figures, not just lymph node involvement, but stage, grade etc., and they are by no means definite. Also they are based on what is now old data, cancer treatments are improving all the time, and for them to use 10 year forecasts it figures that the data would be based on women treated more than 10 years ago.
