I’m wondering if anybody can give me some advice based on their own experience. I’ve had breast cancer in the past (roughly five years ago) and had some lymph nodes taken out. I’ve done fine with my arm and haven’t had any problems. However, all of a sudden, I am having lots of discomfort in my arm. It could be due to having done a lot of typing. It’s mostly located around my elbow – it hurts when I straighten and bend the arm. It might not have anything to do with lymphodemia, but I just wanted to see if anybody has had a similar experience. I am not noticing any swelling, though, which is what makes me think that it may not be related to the lymph nodes.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Susie I am five years on but still feel ( but cannot see anything) swollen around the nodes cut if I overdo it e.g window cleaning down to my elbow  so typing , reaching for files etc could be your nerve ending telling you ease up. My BC Nurse told me it could go on for years … charming but if its playing on your mind go get it checked again and ask if you can take some anti inflammatories. Dont suffer in silence lifes to short …as we know.

Hi Susie - I’ve got lymphodema and I can only describe the pain I feel as being like a Chinese burn (I do hope that that’s not an inappropiate phrase!!!).  In the past though I’ve also suffered from tennis elbow and that sounds more like what you’re experiencing.  Go and see your GP and they should be able to help x

My surgery was only recent but I have been diagnosed with lymphedema. Most of the discomfort I get is around my elbow - it feels as though I have knocked it hard on something, and sometimes it feels like there is something tied around my arm, like a tight or restricted feeling.

I would definitely get it checked out as it might just be that you need a support/sleeve while you are typing to prevent it getting any worse.

Hi, I got lymphodema two years after MX / axillary clearance/ chemo/ rads. I never get pain just heavy feeling. Whatever it is thats troubling you …muscular / lymphodema etc…as my GP says its good to be health aware and get checked out. My lymphodema is managed cos I got early help and advicd from specialist. Good luck.
