Lymphoedema in arm and breast - advice please

Does anyone have any advice for exercises or any form of relief from the pain of lymphoedema of the arm, shoulder and breast. The sleeves I have been given are too tight and the glove too loose. I am at my wits end here. Already trying to deal with TN secondary breast cancer. Don’t know how much more I can take.

Hi Kelly

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. There’s lots of advice and support on the lymphoedema thread (under the “Going Through Treatment” heading). The Haven have a DVD with exercises that I found very useful and I suggest you try to find a good MLD therapist (they’re like gold dust) - google MLD UK to try to find someone near you.

Good luck!

Many thanks Moya. I will have a look for the dvd. There has been talk of me getting taken into hospice to get specialist treatment for lymphoedema but I have no idea what it involves. Will go to the Forum GTG. Thanks again. Do you mind me asking what stage/phase you are at with this horrid disease.

Hi kelly, the lymphodema clinic I go to is also based in a hospice. The nurse took measurements from finger tips to shoulder at regular intervals on both arms as a comparison. She’s given me a range of sleeves and gloves to try and taught me simple drainage massage technique - also performed a thorough drainage massage on me. Hope you can get sorted very soon x

Hi riverside dawn, is there any reason to stay in patient at hospice. I have sleeves, gloves, and bras. I just don’t understand why I need to stay in. Have you any experience in this. I see there is a special drainage machine and wondered if that’s what’s involved. xx
