Thank you, i,ll look these ideas up! x

i finished rads in feb last year and still have lymphoedema in my left breast and armpit… breast surgeon had a look at it today and isnt worried about it and apart from making me have one big swollen boob which is always marked from my underwear it doesnt really cause me too much problem.

Hi folks, I too have lymphoedema I’m my breast, went to lymphoedema clinic on tues, and have had a patch test for the kinesio (sp?) tape , she is going to show my OH how to tape me up, so that I won’t have to go to clinic that often.

I was just wondering if any of you have noticed any reduction with your swellings, either with the tape or massage , it doesn’t really affect me too much, its just really uncomfortable, and I get stabbing pains, but I’m hoping it will reduce - just not sure how long it will take.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance x

Hi Crazy cat lady,

Thank you for posting on my other link.

I was dx with breat lymphoedema in March- over 5 years since my breast cancer surgery. I have had the kineso tape - it helped a bit but is really fiddly and I dont put it on as much as I should.

Mine is “mild” so they say and I had to fight to get referred to a lymphoedema specialist - I was referred 6 weeks ago and have still not heard!!

Mine has stayed about the same but at least it has not got worse. Its painful sometimes like you say and I have got peau d’orange skin. When I first got it I posted a comment on here - go back to MArch and quite a lot of ladies answered who have it in their breast. Have a read it may help.

Good LUck

Alise x

Thank you so much alise! I will trawl back through the lymphoedema threads n have a read.

Really hope you get seen soon, I think they tend to have long waiting lists for these things.

Hope my oh takes notes when it comes to taping, as he’s promised to help!

Thanks again, and take care x

Thanks norberte, for taking the time to reply, I’ve been doing the massage for 5 days, not noticed much improvement yet, and just waiting for an appt for getting taped up, taking pics to follow at home is a good tip that I’ll be following.

Thanks again, take care x

Hi Norberte

I would just like to thank you for all the useful tips you are giving us.I am learning a lot from you

Andie

Could they not offer you a compression bra, rather than tape. I know that compression bra’s are very expensive, and have to be fitted to the patient, but if you have chest lymphoedema, you need adequate compression.
I don’t have lymphoedema, but I do have had a seroma that has been ongoing for 17 months (despite surgery to fix it), and my medical team have bought a compression bra for me. It is very ugly, and I have to wear it all the time, but it is helping a bit.

Norberte- I am trying not to press on too hard! - but its difficult not to, looking forward to hearing about any tips you may pick up from your support group.

Lemongrove- nothing was mentioned about underwear, although I’ve only had one session with the lymphoedema nurse - I’ll certainly be asking at my next appointment.

Thanks to all for your replies, I was beginning to think I was the only one with a swollen boob!

Mummy41 I Also finished rads in dec, and started with breast lympedema last month. Am seeing a therapist who has shown me how to massage and told me to wear a sports bra… Just got up today to find my wrist has swollen up… Would be nice to chat to you all who have similar!!

Can anyone explain what the symptoms of breast lymphoedema are as i am worried that i might have it. My affected breast feels more swollen than it used to be and feels heavy, it is also sometimes quite painful. I have seen my consultant re the soreness but he was unconcerned - i had not thought about breast lymphoedema as stupidly i just thought lymphoedema affected your arm. I had a WLE in february and 5 nodes were sampled, currently half way through chemo.

Hi lily - don’t think there are many of us with lymphoedema in the breast, so it would be nice to compare notes as such, my rads finished in Dec and I’ve just had one session with the nurse and have been massaging - not noticed much difference as yet!

Mel - my breast is about one cup size bigger than my good side, swollen, painful, heavy, yep all the signs of lymphoedema, I went to breast clinic, when I first noticed the swelling, had mammo - just showed fluid, so my surgeon referred me to the lymphoedema clinic, oh mine is also hard to touch in places, apparently this is due to the lymph going stagnant in the breast, as it has nowhere to drain - nice! It is worth mentioning it to your consultant next time you see him/her, get the ball rolling, as there seems to be quite long waiting lists ( I had to wait 5 weeks from referal) I don’t have any swelling in my arm, hoping it just stays in my boob, as its not too noticeable.

Norberte - think I’ve managed to massage lightly, last few days, laughing at the Swedish massage!

Take care everyone else x

Hi Crazy cat!
I had my 2nd apt with Lymph nurse this week. She has now booked me in for a course of massage. I have been doing the gentle one she showed me, but not made any difference. She is going to work on the back & neck to ‘jump start’ it she says!
I have quite a bit of pain/tenderness with mine, do you??!! Under my breast and also under my arm. Bit worried now as the nurse (when massaging) said there was a lump, and that she would mention it to my consultant (who typically is on holiday this week!). She said not to worry and it’s all probably form the blocked lymphs etc etc. But it’s nice & easy for them to tell you not to worry isn’t it!
I did have my mammogram & scan last month, but they said it was difficult to see anything clearly because of the swelling and scarring. AAagghhhh. Just want a yes/no so I can get on!!
Hopefully once the lymphedema has gone down they will re-image and get a clearer picture.
But not had to wait for any apts etc here in York, so I’m lucky there I guess.
How is yours doing?? Have you managed to see anyone yet?
Hope all is good. xxxxx
ps How do I set my account so it notifys me when someones responded on here?!
