I’d read a lot about lymphoedema and was very concerned when my cancer physio I’ve been seeing told me to take extra care, to get to a GP or hospital at the first sign of a cut etc becoming infected etc. I now have a prescription from my GP for antibiotics in case I had a problem over a weekend or when away from home on holiday etc, and also bought a box of antiseptic wipes. The physio had recommended having these handy for any scrapes at any time - I bought a box of 100 (small box, small wipes, £3.24) from my local pharmacy and have spread some of them around handbags and wash bag etc so that some are to hand wherever I am.
Yesterday I attended a meeting with a breast care nurse and a specialist lymphoedema nurse at a local hospital - I received the invitation to attend a couple of weeks ago, and found it a very interesting couple of hours. I’d only heard of one specialist nurse previously, when reading here on the forum - somewhere in Kent, I seem to remember. The specialist nurse is based at the local hospice, and has said she is contactable via the bc nurses if anyone has worries about having lymphoedema, at no cost to the patient of course.
I thought I’d put this post on so that others would know there might be a specialist nurse somewhere near them in case one is needed.
