Mamagrams stopped because having CT Scans, why?

Hi,

Hopefully so someone can shed some light on this question.
Im having ct scans at the moment every 3 months to monitor my sbc treatment which at present is going quite well with the normal side effects. The reason for this question is because i read and understand that ct scans do not pick up soft tissue (breast cancer) issues clearly like a mammagram does. Ive been removed from future breast screening, ive still got i hope one healthy boob and one not so(lumpectomy) boob.
Should i push tobe put back on the list. Your thoughts and knowledge on this would be much appreciated as im now feeling quite anxious about this.

Hi Wendy,
It could be because your breasts are dense. My mammograms would not show anything while scans and MRIs would. During chemo I had MRIs to see progress. Ask your BCN.

Hi,

I’ve been living with SBC for the last 13 years and used to have regular mamograms on the one remaining boob right up until I had that one removed (voluntary procedure removal) as I’m on Herceptin for life I also have 3 monthly CT scans. In ref to your question yes you should be offered a mamo in addition to CT scans. CT with contrast show a very clear 3D picture of your breasts but I feel you should be able to have yearly mamos as well. I would push for it. Hope this helps x

Thank you saralousie,
For your reply, i needed to hear that and that im right in thinking i should still have them.
But also for giving me hope, 13 years …thats brilliant, but i expect its not been plain sailing with alot of ups/downs/stress/anxiety and struggles, mentally and physically.

Sending a huge hug to you from a person who is only just starting this struggle of uncertainty :heartpulse:
