Mammo Brought Forward

Hi ladies,
Was DX with BC last July , (grade 3 no nodes) had WLE/ chemo/Rads now on Tamoxifen (finished treatments in march this year).
Last week i went for my check up at the clinic, and after the usual chat my onc did a breast exam, and found a lump under my WLE scar, i was due my first mammo in august but this has now been brought forward to Thursday .
Am pretty scared right now and am hopeing and praying its only scar tissue.
But the waiting is just awfull ,and has brought the whole horror of this bloody desease back, i feel like im in a nightmare and cant wake up.
Have any of you ladies ever had something simular? and can share your expierences with me. I could realy do with a bit of reasurance right now.
Ive been told il get my results the same day.
Thanks ladies

Hi lindiloo

During this difficult time you may find it helps to talk to one of our trained members of staff on the BCC helpline. Here you are able to share your fears and concerns and the staff are happy to offer you a listening ear as well as support and advice. The number to call is 0808 800 6000 the lines open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturdays 9am - 2pm.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Kind regards

Sam
BCC Facilitator

I’ve got quite a large lump behind my WLE scar but they tell me it’s just scar tissue and no need to be alarmed. I understand the panic you are having tho cos I was at the GP recently and mentioned as an ‘oh and by the way’ about the fact that my back had been sore for a couple of weeks … he decided to take no chances and ordered a bone scan ‘just to be on the safe side’ … initially I was fine and not at all worried given that I was grade 1 no nodes … but then I started to niggle myself with the ‘yeah but …’ Thankfully the scan results came back clear so I am back on the straight and narrow again.

I hope all goes well on Thursday and you are given the all clear.

Hello Lindiloo

I had a WLE in Dec 06 and have still got a lump under the scar. I’ve had a mammogram and two ultraounds since surgery and the radiologist is 99% sure that the lump is scar tissue. Rads also caused some hard lumpy patches in my breast but those are gradually going now.

Try not to worry too much as there’s a good chance yours is either scar tissue or changes caused by rads.

Good luck on Thursday. Let us know.

Hi Lindiloo - Just to add to the messages above, I too have a lump beneath my scar line, and I think it is far from uncommon. I had chemo and finished rads two weeks ago. They wanted to do a biopsy at the radiotherapy department, but then the surgeon said he didn’t want any more needles being put in me (I had some fluid drained a few weeks before after an infection). The surgeon said he is sure that it is just scar tissue (ultra sound looked ok) and suggested we wait now until my first annual mammo in November. But he did say I could have a biopsy “if I want one”!!! After talking to lots of people, I am just waiting (and watching). So I really do understand your concern, but hopefully (and most likely), your doc is just being cautious and all will turn out to be well. I do hope so and please let us know. Liliablushes, so glad your scan was clear, and Anthi hope you stay fine as well! Sarah x

Hi Lindiloo

I had WLE June 07 Chemo, Rads, and have since April had 2 scares of lumps under scar line. The first was thickened scar tissue, the second was found at my annual mammogram and US last week and fortunately turned out to be a benign tissue growth. When awaiting result i read some of the threads and it does seem fairly common. Everything crossed for you it is so hard not to worry after everything we have been through.
Thinking of you.

Hi Lindiloo,

I found a lump on my reconstruction about 6 months ago - I saw my consultant and he arranged for an FNA, and as this was inconclusive, a core biopsy. It turned out to be fat necrosis which is very common apparently.

The worst thing about it was the worry and the waiting for tests and then results.

Here’s hoping you too have the attractively named fat necrosis!

Thanks girls
It realy does help knowing that some of you ladies have been through the same and thankfully turned out to be scar/fatty tissue. I realy know how you must have felt , the waiting and the worrying realy is the worst isnt it? I think its proberly worst than the first time , Il be glad when thursdays here and i can get the mammo done (though i know i will be in a real panic on the day) but you have given me lots of hope that the lump will turn out to be something harmless so thank you.
Il let you know how i get on.
Hope you are all doing ok and all the very best to you all.
Take Care

Hi Ladies,
Just to let you all know, i had the mammo today followed by an ultrasound and a needle biopsy , radioligist is 99% sure lump is ok but wont get result to confirm untill another week , they are going to send my results to my oncoligist so im to ring him in a weeks time.Urghhhh. Lump seems to contain very sticky gel like fluid .so think thats a good sign ,she didnt say what it could be but was very optimistic it would most likely be harmless. Phew am very relieved and will definately sleep better tonight now. Hope you are all doing ok and thanks so much for all your help and support.
Take care everyone and all the best.

Dear Lindiloo - That sounds to be great news. Sounds just like what the ultrasound showed up for me - but as I think I wrote, the surgeon was confident that was all it was, and didn’t recommend I had further investigations. So pleased for you - Sleep very tight and sweet dreams! Love Sarah
