Mammo clear, PET/CT undefined

I had a right mastectomy and recon 4 years ago. I had been having new pain, so they did an ultrasound which was all ok. At the same time they did annual left side mamma. That was all good too. Then they did a PET/CT which has done back as “ Subtle focality in the left breast is of uncertain significance“.

Now having a left side ultrasound to see what this is. Apparently it was an area that did not take up the radioactive tracer.

If not cancer what could it be?

Hello Eltwins,

Thank you for your post.

Having scans that report changes of uncertain significance is difficult, and it’s understandable you are wondering what it could be.

We cannot say what these changes may mean but it sounds like this is a worrying time for you. Hopefully the ultrasound you are waiting for will give a clearer picture of what this area might be. You should then have the opportunity to talk to your specialist about the results of the ultrasound, together with the PET/CT scan results.
