Mammogram invite

I have been invited to a mammogram but not sure i need to go. I have secondary breast cancer and have 3 monthly chest and pelvis CT . Is it worth going and if so what would it show that a CT doesn’t?

My oncologist told me i didn’t need a mammogram because ct scan was better. Told me to leave it for someone who needed it

Thank you, that is helpful to know, as i didnt think i would need one

Hi Bish12,

Thank you for posting asking if you should attend your breast screening appointment as you have a secondary breast cancer diagnosis and are receiving regular 3 monthly chest and abdominal CT scans. Mammograms are more sensitive than CT scans at detecting changes in breast tissue and are used to look for cancer that may be too small to see or feel in the breasts.

We are unable to say whether a mammogram will be helpful in your circumstances but we would suggest talking to your treatment team who will advise you whether a mammogram would be necessary in your situation. You could also telephone your breast screening department who will be able to explain how to opt out of receiving future mammogram invitations if you decide you do not need to attend.

We have a secondary breast cancer online discussion forum including a private chat group for sharing information and support. There is also a weekly Live chat session which runs on Tuesdays at 8.30-9.30pm.

We also provide a number of different services for people living with secondary breast cancer which you may be interested in. These include Our Living with Secondary Breast Cancer Online groups facilitated by trained counsellors and speakers live sessions. Our face to face Living with Secondary Breast Cancer groups meet up monthly and also give you the chance to connect with and share experiences with other people who understand what you’re going through.
