Hi all
Don’t know if anyone can help but in a year’s time my 5 years is up and I will be back to having a mammogram every 3 years. I’m not comfortable with this as my cancer was found due to my changing GP’s & therefore being sent with the new GP’s patients for an extra mammogram, it had been under 2 years from my previous one. I intend to save up & pay for extra one’s but my sister in Essex says they can go to a Marie Curie clinic & have one & put in a donation of whatever you can afford. Does anyone know if this service is available in or around Sheffield?
No idea about Marie Curie but after 5 years I had a yearly mammogram. 3 years ago my surgeon decided a annual mammogram and ultrsound scan was a better precaution and my second carcinoma was discovered by the ultrasound not the mammogram. So my advice is insist on both. 3 years is far too long and for peace of mind which we all need, going privately may be the only answer.
Hi Olivia
Thanks so much for your advice. I have a checkup due on 9th February so will have a chat about it then. Are you in the Sheffield area? If so I may have a chance of getting the same checks as you. Wish me luck!!
Hi all,
I was diagnosed back in 2003 and had yearly mammograms initially which then were due to change to 2 yearly back in 2008. Fortunately they have had a policy change here in Bristol and we now have yearly mammograms, which is a huge relief. I no longer see anyone after the mammogram unless there is a problem - this obviously means a few weeks ‘trauma’ waiting for the result to plop onto the doormat - that coupled with the couple of weeks building up to the appointment - all-in-all probably 6 weeks of increased anxiety (and mood swings for the family to deal with) once a year but I can live with that! I was led to believe this was a National trend rather than just local but I may be wrong - I think we probably all agree that three years is too long to wait.
Kathy.
