manuka Honey?

Has anybody ever heard of using Manuka Honey on scars? I have read that it is supposed to speed up healing and be better than Vitamin E…would appreciate any views.

Can only say that I had Manuka honey dressings for my burns from radio therapy and they definately helped me.

I should think it would be easily as good as vitamin E. Ordinary honey is known for it’s skin softening ability and Manuka Honey has the added benefits of it’s antibiotic properties. I swear by it when I’ve got a cough or sore throat and it’s yet to let me down! But if your looking for something that really works on scars it’s Neal’s Yard Balsam - expensive but worth it.

Manuka honey is used for open wounds, because of its anti-bacterial and moisturising properties. I’m having Manuka impregnated dressings put on my surgery wounds by the hospital every two days at the moment. But once the skin has closed over then I’ll switch to Neil’s Yard Rosehip oil which is full of vitamins A and E.

Cheshire cheese, can i just ask why you are having those dressing put on?
I bought some Manuka Honey yesterday and already, 24 hours later i have a scab thats formed over the hole and the leaking has stopped - miracle cream!!!

Yup, can most certainly vouch for manuka honey working on wounds. Not any old manuka honey of course, but the active version. Everyone says to use 20+, but I found 15+ worked brilliantly. Surgeon thought I was bonkers, but his solution was failing badly.

Hi Deed

I had a mastopexy type surgery (breast lift and reduction) complicated by a haematoma within hours of them finishing it so they had to go back in again. Net result is slower healing and some wound breakdown, so they treat that by keeping it moist to allow it to heal from the underneath first, rather than allowing it to dry up and scab over as they would for a small or shallow wound. I didn’t understand and had to look it up on the internet, but that’s the modern approach apparently.

I’ve been trying Manuka honey on my tummy button and a small area of my abdominal wound which hasn’t healed very well after a double skin sparing mastectomy with immediate tram flap reconstruction. After nearly two weeks nothing at all had changed so I’ve abandoned it and am just keeping them covered with a dry dressing. I am also having problems with the discs of skin used to patch up the breast envelope after the tissue was removed and replaced. I did consider giving the honey a try but so far have resisted it because I am quite alarmed by the whole appearance of them. If you are interested go to my profile where I think you can read about my experiences with the surgery.
