Hi ladies
Im sure this topic has been done lots before but I am just looking for advice. I remember hearing that manuka honey can help with blood counts to ensure chemos run on schedule etc so I was just wondering how to take it? On its own or melted in warm water etc? How often and how much etc? I started carboplatin on wednesday and this time I havent been given the neulasta jabs to boost my blood count so I thought Id best give the manuka honey a try.
Thanks in advance
Tina xx
Hi Tina, I take 2-3 teaspoons of Manuka a day, have done since my diagnosis in 2003. I’ve felt well all throughout my first ever chemo. After many years of hormonal treatment I’ve now been on constant 3 weekly cycles of Xeloda since early 2008. My bloods have always bounced back and I’ve felt really well throughout. I’ve also found taking Manuka at the first signs of any cold or sore throat seems to prevent it developing any further. My understanding is hot water destroys the potency of the honey so it’s best taken just by the spoon. Also 10+ and above Manuka are the most beneficial.

PS, there is also Life Mel honey, I know some forum members have used it in the past.
Hi Tina,
I use manuka honey and i found it helped with mucositis after tax. I think mine is 16+ and I try to remember 3 teaspoons daily.
