March 2026 chemo starters

Enjoy those mini Colin the Caterpiller cakes. And biscuits.

Happy birthday @demimiray . Don’t beat yourself up - I keep saying it but chemo isn’t meant to be a punishment. If it makes you feel any better my oncologist said cut down on alcohol as chemo is processed out of the body via the liver as is alcohol, but she didn’t say stop, and I do have the odd glass of wine on days when I’m feeling well and when I think the chemo has ā€œpassed throughā€. At my last review I was told that my kidney and liver function scores were ā€œperfectā€, so it’s obviously not doing any harm! Glad you were able to enjoy yourself, it’s important.

Happy Birthday - celebrating the best way you can is never wrong. I’m a G&T lover too - haven’t been able to face one yet but on my birthday I so would ! Can’t fault a birthday Colin either :heart::heart:

Happy Birthday to you! Glad you’ve been able to have a good celebration. You definitely deserve it! Xxx

Happy Birthday - double portions of chocolate cake I hope! Xxx

Absolutely! Thank you

@joodles Thank you! Definitely have that birthday gin in October - maybe a cheeky celebration one once you’re out of active treatment too  Minecraft is a great game! I am a bit on/off with it but sometimes it really hits the spot. A family server sounds brilliant, we’re neurospicy also but the ADHD means we don’t tend to stick with just one game long enough

@sam1204 Thank you! It’s actually been really good cutting out alcohol for 3 months, and makes saving it for a special occasion actually special. I was feeling a bit grotty yesterday but today I’m back to chemo-normal  Not sure if it will impact my numbers, I know my liver numbers were elevated slightly but also that it’s a resilient organ - it’ll be fine  It really is important to not feel like we have to be perfect with everything.

Thank you @wibbles @clarabelle1 @katie91 @jululemon - it’s definitely the weekend for chocolate all around. Hope everyone is having a good easter

And big Happy Birthday @barley1  Chocolate cake is where it’s at!!

I have to admit being profoundly dyslexic and dyscalculic and living with a husband and having older kids who are all on the spectrum, except for eldest DD who has ADHD which she uses as her superpower as a nurse. Best description of them is a mix between the ÌT Crowd and The Mitchell’s versus the machines.

I use kids coolmath games as they are fairly short and help with basic number skills. Heck past two weeks I have even been trying to get to grips with beginners and some intermeadiate sudokus, something l have never been able to do before.

Enjoy the Minecraft as and when you dip in and out of it.

Thank you! Love a bit of chocolate cake

Hi- I’m also triple negative- I’m on 12 weekly chemo and then once every 3 weeks for 12 weeks. I’ve had two infusions so far- worst days appear to be day 3/4, but the rest of the time I seem to be able to get out and about so far. I hope that continues, as I have a very active 6 year old at home. I’m signed off work though, as I am a teacher. Hope you’re doing well x

Today should be chemo round 3 but the bank holiday has pushed it forward to Wednesday so ive got 2 free days! Today I’m going for a walk in the woods.

That and as much good food as I can stomach hoping my bloods come back ok.

Happy Monday all. Wishing us all a good week

Today noticed not just hair on head that has started thinning but pubes as well.

DH cannot get why I sat and cried. More bloody upset that sodding over sensitive skin that is prone to eczema means I cannot and frankly dare not opt for a sodding wig. It was one thing to think it’s my choice to opt for various head coverings but quite another to realise my skin has taken that choice from me.

Given up and ordered three excema clothing pj bottoms that are seam free in 100% cotton and a mitten excema sleep top with built in mittens to reduce scratching when asleep. I never imagined having to order their stuff again after 10 years of my skin being mostly under control.

Has anyone any sane suggestions for 100% cotton button fronted pj tops without pockets etc that l can wear inside out in hospital post masectomy after chemo as the eczema clothing place does NOT have any. Will have a moment on breast care nurses over post surgery front fastening bras in cotton too. I have a nasty feeling anything that is synthetic or contains any latex my skin will go awful over based on its reaction to my underwear.

Oncologist tomorrow. I will be holding out for lotions, potions and far stronger anti histamines than the GP is willing to let me have as the experienced oncology nurse has warned me l can expect this to happen every time and l have five more to go.

So sorry you are feeling to limited in your choices. I wonder if your breast care nurses have any suggestions? They must have seen lots of different side effects in their time, they could have an idea you’ve not thought about.

Eczema is hard at the best of times, I’m so sorry its one of the things you have to deal with now also. Fingers crossed you get some strong antihistamines though that helps.

I think we will all have little crys about all sorts over the next few months but it’s better out than in. Sometimes a good cry can help relieve some of the tension thats building up. My short hair is falling out lots now and its a really hard thing to deal with. Its affecting me so much more than I expected I’m even sleeping less because its playing on my mind. Im cold capping so trying to hold on to some hair but it feels like im just delaying the inevitable. I could do with the rest of my body hair reading the eviction notice  ive promised myself no shaving so if it doesnt fall out soon it’s going to make shorts season a bit awkward!

@wibbles sorry to hear you’re suffering so much. I attach a photo of my my favourite pj top which is John Lewis, 100% cotton and no pockets. You could search online. Re antihistamines, I got max dose fexofanadine from my oncology team for my face rash - it’s been absolutely brilliant and has almost cleared it completely. I don’t know if it’d work for eczema but worth asking. They should be able to sort you out with something, this must be quite common.

Happy Monday @foxgem hope your weather is as sunny as mine today! Am surprised they delayed your chemo, I had mine last Friday which was a bank holiday. Never mind, you get to enjoy the nice weather. I’m sorry to hear the cold capping isn’t working as well as you hoped :frowning:. As for your other hair, I can’t believe it won’t follow suit….perhaps after your next treatment you’ll see some results :joy:. Be warned it’s quite weird….

I’m definitely feeling more tired now, even after a good night’s sleep I just yawn a lot. I’ve also noticed an increased HR even when just sitting or lying in bed. Don’t like it. Also a bit of chemo fog. But keeping up my walking and the right kind of food intake. Chemo really is the gift that keeps on giving .

Thank you to foxgem and Sam,

You have given me the confidence to broach the issue of a post surgery bra with the breast care nurses and the what the hell do l wear on my top. Had not thought it could be a problem they have meet before.

And thanks Sam for letting me know there could be options with antihistamines especially as you are on paxitaxel. I have nab-paxitaxel and it does appear to aggravate skin.

I will be taking my eczema pj bottoms though and cotton socks though. My DD (nurse) is not able to tell me what they wash the hospital use on their sheets only that Ìt appears to aggravate any one with an active eczema flare. Hope l do not have to stay in for long when surgery falls due.

So sorry to hear about all the skin problems you’re having. On top of all the other stuff chemo brings I bet that really is a challenge. I can’t help with any recommends apart from I got some lovely cotton PJs recently from M&S - my purchase was hot flush related rather than skin but I have found them ok. I’ve been using Moo Goo on my skin which I think is helping but you sound like you need some strong medicated stuff to really tackle this. As well as keeping an eye on food intake you have the extra pressure of what to put near your skin .

I was due my 2nd EC today too which has been delayed until tomorrow due to Easter. Feeling very emotional about it which I guess is normal. Seems strange to be hoping that having a load of toxic shit put in your body can happen but that’s life at the moment isn’t it .

I get the heart thing too - sometimes I feel every beat - mostly in the middle of the night when I’m having numerous hot flushes - chemo - the gift that keeps on giving.

Hope everyone else OK xxx
