Sounds exactly what I am looking into

I plan to hide away from the heat and keep the house as cool as possible. Glad I had chemo last week and not this as I struggle with heat on a good day and I could do without having to travel in heat. My hair may be dark when it its there but I inherited my dads red headed skin which hates the heat. I used to shade bathe with my dad following the shade spots on the beach whilst mum sat in the sun.

@foxgem, tbh some of the side effects I have had have been horrible but having a four week break on order of my oncologist even I noticed I started to feeel more human by week 4 (Admittidly with blood transfusions and extra maganesium supplements) Had a shaky five days post chemo but joint aches and bone pain now settling down and apart from how flipping hot Ìt is out there Feeling more like I could pass for human. TRuly hope over today you get some not so wiped out moments too. you have earned them.

PS have a look at tips for menopausal woman during heat waves to help with the hot flushes plus extra heat. I plan to follow the health advice on keeping as cool as possible as I do not want nor need post chemo plus heat combined. AH well one more round to go then surgery.

Hang on in there @foxgem , it will pass. You will feel better soon. Tbh no one can sleep properly in this weather, we just take what we can. Here’s a tip from hot places abroad - if you have a room which gets a lot of direct sun during the day, close the curtains or blinds when the sun is at its hottest then open them and windows when it cools down int he evening. Also a wet flannel or cap completely doused in cold water on your head and neck helps keep you cool.

I’ve just spent 2 hours in my gym as its aircon makes it freezing! Even if you just walk on a treadmill you’re cooler than outside

I feel the same. Did well at the beginning but as time has gone on things have sometimes caught me out. Glad you’ve been a bit better - I can switch hourly sometimes ! xxxx

I was on HRT before cancer diagnosis and my hot flushes returned with a vengeance and have been a constant ā€˜friend’. No more HRT for me as high ER positive. My tips are - cotton / linen nightwear, in the warm weather I have a muslin throw that I use rather than bedclothes but also have cotton bed sheets, duvet , rechargeable fans all over the place but particularly at night. You can get some good ones from Amazon that have multi speeds and you can hold or stand next to you. You can also get things called Chillos - I don’t find them helpful but some do. I’m going to try acupuncture too when I can cope with another thing to do ! Finally a full nights sleep is unlikely again but you can get back to sleep often with a quick fan to the face I find. I’m sure there are lots of other good tips around but here’s a starter for 10. It’s weird when it’s a cold night and you’re roasting from a hot flush - you do get colder afterwards though ! xxx

Thank so much you for all that advice! Is there anywhere in particular that you buy cotton/linen clothes?

All over but I’ve got a lot of cotton PJs and T-shirts from M&S this year. Also had some oversize 100% linen shirts from H&M earlier in the year which were good value. They also sell linen and cotton blend shirts too. Have some older linen T-shirts too xx

Here’s the last fan I got -

But there are lots of choices xxx

Do keep an eye out for linen viscose blends , they are sold as linen rich but they are not so cool as pure linen and may prove to warm to wear. Ditto cotton rich fabrics, look out for pure cotton as it is more enduring and cooler too.

I have found some nice pure linen shirts et al in charity shops at a fraction of the price of new linen clothing. Linen tends to last for decades due to its flax fibre. Hope you find something that works for you.

@katie91 that’s a great result and so pleased that you have new growth already! My pattern of loss is similar with the scalp cooling - most of the loss at the crown (hubby calls it a wide parting :joy::joy::joy:) with hair still at the front and back. I’ve noticed more shedding these past couple of weeks and my front now looks like it has an undercut, but still enough to wear a hat or scarf and have a kind of fringe.

@mssteel I get what you mean about feeling avoidant. We just don’t feel like our normal selves and it can really make us feel self-conscious going out wearing things we don’t usually wear like scarves or hats. We’re just super-aware that we look different to our usual. I genuinely think other people are more concerned with their own stuff than to be noticing what we’re wearing most of the time. I’ve taken to wearing bandanas tied 1970s style (triangle on head with the point at the back, and tied at the bottom at the back). I’m old enough to remember Charlie’s Angels and Felicity Kendall in The Good Life, so if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me! Like a little hark back to my childhood. Love my Solbari bucket hat too in this heat - goes with anything!

Absolutely agree @wibbles - there are a few 100% linen and 100% cotton and even cotton and linen blended together - just always check the material section  xx

There’s loads of scarves around and people wearing the 70’s style scarf these days so you’re totally on trend :heart:
