Marvellous Marchies 2012 Moving on

Ceej, my hand and arm from where I had the infusions are worse now and I had my last lot in June. Noticed it more over the last few days. The veins in my hand hurt, like they are bruised. I also have a chemical burn to some of them which isnt getting much better. I should probabaly go to my GP, but cant be bothered now after the last few months! Let me know how you get on with your GP.

Joan xx

Ceej - I’ve had tennis elbow and it sounds just like that to me. Had physio on it a few times and then after that I did the exercises they gave me and they eventually worked. Since then I’ve had no re-occurence but then I’m not playing squash either! Hope it gets sorted out for you.

Thanks both - i’ve just called GP to make sure am seeing a GP for my smear and not a nurse - unfortunately it looks like I’m booked in with the one that I don’t rate very highly .
Beryl - I don’t play anything so am not sure what it’s all about! I keep saying “ouch” and my OH keeps having a heart attack ha ha - it’s serious when it hurts to stretch out and reach your alcohol ! I’m really fed up with the pain now tho xx

Joan - I’m gonna meet Dani off the train on the 10th so I’m gatecrashing xx

Hi everyone - first day back at work today on a phased return and did I feel like the new girl! We’ve moved buildings as well so had to get used to that but its a much nicer place than before and everyone has been lovely. I am soooo tired now but only have another morning this week and two next so at least |I’m easing myself back in. My brain seems to have gone to mush and really hope when I get back into it that things will become easier!
I’ll be arriving for our meet up about lunchtime on the Sat but will coordinate times etc. I don’t want to tie anyone down to be there when I get there incase people are out and about but would really appreciate it if anyone is there and I can put my case in their room as I dont think I can get in until 3.

Hope you’re all ok. Really looking forward to meeting you all
Bettie xx

Hello MM’S
Well went to breast clinic to get MX scar checked out, was seen by a very nice Dr(not seen him before), he gave me a thorough check over, including left boob and neck. Said that my scar had healed well and the bit that I kept getting told was a sreoma is just a bit of flab at the end of the scar, it is not filled with anything, he said I could have it surgically removed if I wanted I said no that’s ok!!!He said that the reason my scar keeps getting swollen from time to time is that everything is still healing on the inside and he did remind me that it’s only 10 weeks since rads finished, and that as I was now back at work I was using that arm more and making muscles work that hadn’t worked for a while. He also said that I definitely don’t have any signs of lymphoedema, so was quite relieved when I came out. Will just continue to be lopsided for a while longer as prosthesis to uncomfy to wear for any length of time.
CEEJ the arm I had chemo in still gets painful when I stretch and turn it I think that they said the veins could remain bruised for up to a year, but I guess it’s good to get it checked out, will be watching to see what advice you get. Hope that your daughter feels better soon.
BETTIE glad that you have got the first day over, I am on my last week in phased return and still get very tired, so end up having early nights , though hot flushes don’t let me sleep well. You are welcome to dump bags in my room on Sat if need be.
BERYL my rads area got itchy for a while and the onc gave me hydrocortisone cream which did the trick. Yes indeed you do know when the hot flushes are appearing!!! Hope the baking went well
PARSNIP how lovely that you have got yourself a holiday booked for over Christmas.
PEANUT glad you can make it Fri night
MEGSMUM I asked Dr in clinic today if ok to use Immac he said that was fine just don’t wet shave under arm. Hope you are starting to feel less emotional and have come to a decision about your antidepressants.
Hope everyone else doing ok.
Love Jane

Hello MM’s

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Caren, how did you get on with the cleaner? Hope you got sorted out ok with her. What day is your appointment with the Onc?

KQ, Cleo is doing fine now thanks. She has some medicine to take for about the next week or so, hope it has sorted her out. Did you get your gas meter fitted ok?

Carolyn, how did your appointment with the Onc go today?

Bettie, glad you got on okat work today, you will soon be back in the swing of things.

Marie67, Jane, glad you got on ok with your appointment today and that your mind has been put at rest.

Ceej, glad you are meeting up with Dani on 10th, let us know what time you will both be arriving. Goodness, the time is flying by now, can’t wait! I had an idea to copy our thread and get it printed and bring a copy for everyone to our meet up. However, the first page was 7 pages long when I copied it into word. That would make the whole thing nearly 1,000 pages long! Needless to say I have decided against that idea!! Lol!

Sleep tight, MM’s, sweet dreams

Morning all
My car being picked up today to go and get repaired, another thing out of the way.
Marie – The arm that is painful is the other arm to the one I had chemo in – they messed up on my final FEC in the right arm and caused a venous thrombosis so I have a visible lump on my arm! And it’s this one that hurts. Like you I still get a funny pain when I stretch the other arm just in the vein they last used. I must admit I am still using a wet razor under my arms at the gym, I suppose it’s ok as long as I don’t nick myself…Glad you’re scar is ok, I think we are all impatient to try and get back to “normal” but that’s gonna take quite a while!
I had Bowen again last night (she still hasn’t taken any money from me as she says she will be happy when I’m happy). I must admit the shoulder pain has definitely eased – that’s maybe because I got pains elsewhere ha ha!
Daughter still complaining of severe stomach pains, so I sorted out the Buscopan I bought in Turkey last year – I don’t know what else to suggest to her, it must be something going around.
Busy trying to put together a xmas card list at work – they are so disorganised here being such a small place you would think it would be different, but everything seems to have to be done from scratch ho hum.
Went to the gym last night, and I’m definitely building up my running, I did 15 mins and was aiming for 20 but daughter kept texting me – really annoying! It’s only jogging slowly but it makes me feel like I’m getting fitter – shame about the aches and pains! I think I’m going to see what “Insanity” is at the gym tonight starting at 5.30 if I can get there in time – looks pretty hard, so I might just see what I can do!
Have a lovely day all xxxx

HI MM’S saw this BBC article today

Breast screening advice updated amid controversy over harms

What d0 you think about it? I think that until they can determine which cancers are life threatening they should keep screening and treating us ladies - My OH has always said the treatment for cancer, particularly chemo,is like taking a sledghammer to crack open a peanut. I agree with him but it’s the best we have right now. I’d rather be free of cancer than carrying cancer.

Pachit, I arrive Friday around lunchtime. I will go to the shops in the afternoon so I can meet up in the evening if others are around.
Clare

I also think they should keep screening, not that they found mine when I was last screened! Just off for appt with Oncologist - I still have a chemo burn on my hand and my veins are swollen and my fingers hurt in the cold!

Hi ladies
Totally agree with Waiting Too and Geargie, surely screening is always the answer until definite other tests are routine. I’d rather have lots of screening than be ignored, even though I’m dreading another MRI and mammo.
Well follow up oncology and radio done, no problems and signed over to my surgeon from now on.

Just waiting now to go to see nurse as I needmy ears syringes. Apparently when doctor finally gave me antibiotics to clear laryngitis my ears are very waxy. Also need to look at my big toe nails they’ve started going black in the corners, yuck!

Ordered my badge and am so looking forward to meet up. We’ve got the bathroom being done this week, plumbing done tiler gone off on a crisis job today, god it better get finished ASAP the mess is driving me mad.

Better go, I love the feeling once you have ears done, but hate the waiting again.

Love to all

This will sound awful, but I am glad there are others with hand / arm problems. Thought I was alone!

Good luck Georgie with the Oncologist.

I also think they should carry on screening (thats not how mine was picked up either but I still think its a good thing).

Hi all I too have pains in my chemo arm and when i turn it certain ways my veins stand out it looks horrible. I have appt with oncologist tomorrow and will find out result from Dexa scan.
I am still weepy and irritable but for now am trying to go without anti depressants.
I am also starting slimming world on thursday to try and get this weight shifted
I have arranged with my manager to have dec off using holls and start work properly in jan exactly one year since diagnosis that will be very strange.
Keep strong x

Evening MM’s

Haven’t liked listening to the news today about BC etc. My tumour was picked up by routine Mam and it couldn’t be felt even by the Doc examining me. It was only via the Mam and ultra sound/biopsy that it was diagnosed and I find it quite upsetting when they talk about if treatment should or should not be given for certain types. They can’t even state what types but if they were in the position we have found ourselves in would they prefer to tread the tight rope or have treatment? I know which way I would fall! None of us wanted to go through this awful treatment but at least we feel that something’s been done and we haven’t been left in limbo. I’m wondering how the hardworking BC team feels about all of this and the possible rebound from it all. I’m glad that I’m not facing the question ‘treatment or no treatment’ at the moment! It’s all too hairy fairy for me. I’ll get off my soap box now and say horray for screening and the wonderful teams that look after us!

Be back later for any feedback.

Beryl XX

Megsmum - Thinking of you and sending a big hug your way which may or may not help. Good luck with the Dexa scan, mine was OK and should get another one in 2 years time to make sure bones are behaving themselves. Onch said the hospital will automatically put me forward for one so don’t need to worry about my surgery orgainising it, which would have been a bit hit and miss, will they or won’t they?

Hello MM’S
I totally agree that they should continue with the screening and treatment accordingly.Although I hadn’t started routine screening when my boob developed problems.
CARLOLYN,GEORGIE and MEGSMUM, hope all goes well with your appointments.
I see that they are going to revamp this site again, hopefully it will be more successful ads we lost a lot of ladies from the site the last time they did it.
Going to watch Pride of Britain awards later so may need tissue at the ready!!!
Love Jane

Although i found my lump myself I too think that screening should continue.
My one remaining toenail has now lifted from the nailbed and just about hanging on!
Have appointment with onc tomorrow which I think is just to review treatment and book in next CT scan. Am going to sound him out about risk reducing surgery whilst I am there.
Really looking forward to our weekend. I get into the airport about 12.30 on the saturday so imagne i should be at hotel before 2pm.

euww sorry for the iPad autocorrects, hope that makes sense despite them!

Just to put my two pennies worth into the debate on screening. I think they are actually asking the wrong questions. At the moment they can’t tell which tumours are life threatening within a person’s lifespan. Rather than saying we shouldn’t screen because some people may be over treated I think ey should be putting more fundi into fundamental research into finding out what makes a tumour grow quickly or not so and what causes spread in one persthan it not another. If we had the answer to these questions then would heather to screen issue would be null and void, it would always be better to screen as it is then possible to go further and find out whether treatment is necessary. The debate in the media at the moment is particularly unhelpful when there are calls to drop the screening age. I wish my tumour had been picked up earlier (much earlier) and have since been told I’ll only be screened for five years before I then have to wait until normal screening age, despite me already having had bc. Just seems a cost cutting exercise to me.
rant over  am off to London for few days tomorrow, hoping the weather will be kind though Thursday when we’re scheduled to go to kew is meant to be rainy :frowning: will have fun anyway.
Hope everyone is doing ok, not long til our meet up now
