Hi all have recurrance to breast and secondaries to lung which has responded well to taxol, but breast lump not shrunk in last 3 months. Due to see breast surgeon soon to discuss this as the team feel an op is the next step as breast lump not responding well to chemo. Am thinking of asking for a double mastectomy as I am a 40 e chest and don’t feel I can cope with the lopsided ness. Not really keen on reconstruction, have been told i will need chemo again at some point so would like to get back to some normality while I can .
I am 47.
Anyone there there had similar or any advice welcome

I think If I could go back in time I would of pushed to of had a double mastectomy. My breasts were very small although since my mastectomy the one boob is now huge and I’m stuggling with the whole lop sided thing. I think you would be wise to have a double mastectomy especially as you have secondaries like myself on your lungs. Hi Sarah, I had primary dx in May and have suspect speckles on my lungs. I am 45 and aso a 40E chest. I have had a right mx and I hate the lopsidedness and will have the other one off asap. I am not interested in recon as they have been the bane of my life forever, being so big. I love my silicone boob but it is so big. When I have the other one off i will go with nothing day to day but would get 2 B cup prosthetics for when I fancied them xxx
Very much a personal choice, I have had a bilateral mx with no recon and I feel better as while waiting for 2nd mx found being lopsided very difficult, every time I had to put my prosthesis in or out it remended me of what I had lost, now I tend not to think about it, clothes can be a problem when you are flat chested but I think I have found my style now.
