Having had a mx 4 yrs ago and waiting for another, no reconstruction, I have found it increasingly frustrating to find a decent, well-fitting, reasonably priced pocketed bra until now!! Have tried M&S in the past but had a look again a couple of weeks ago. Ordered a few styles, sizes and colours online - free delivery, no VAT and a fiver off if you spend over 30 quid. Have found their total support one a perfect fit but they seem to be discontinuing it although I managed to grab 2 in white that fitted, then 2 new styles in modal fabric, one purple and one blue. No wires, no lace just nice everyday bras with a hint of detail. Only 14 pounds that by the time I’d ordered 3 with the above discounts worked out at 29.99 delivered for all 3. Plus you can try them on at home with various tops etc in your own time.
So if you are looking around, I would recommend a peep at M&S website in their post surgery section. I have left reviews and also asked them to do nude shades in these styles and do a larger range as I am sure there is a major market out there just waiting to be tapped.
Thanks ladies, I am really glad I found ths thread. I have had a nightmare trying to find a bra! I had an mx 5th January and had my prosthesis appointment at the end of Feb. I think the prosthesis is too big and have made another appointment for the clinic again. I have ordered bras over the internet, totally useless, didnt turn up, then turned up in the wrong size! I have brought 2 from John Lewis, both different sizes, but with both of them the prosthesis pokes out of the top of the bra. Is that normal? It just seems too big to me!
I will have a look at M&S and Matalan. This has been so frustrating and I could do without it while coping with other treatments!!
M&S have a got couple of nice ones, one i like is cornflower blue and white and they do matching knickers as well if you look round. Debenhaams also do mx bras as well i have found, not as expensive as you think in fact a few of them are cheaper than M&S. theres are sale on debenhams as well as minute. maybe its bigger debenhams that probably have most selection.
i am hoping to have a proper bra fitting at nicola jane today, as i havent a clue what to bra size i need, but i have to have one for my prosthesis fitting in a week and i want to make sure i am wearing correct bra - i am hoping they will give some advise regarding getting a prosthesis and what might be suitable for me. are you wearing prosthesis with a pocketed bra at minute then or not?
will let you know what nicola jane say about fitting and prostheseis poking out of top and what problem is.
Angelfalls, thank you, I will haev a look at ASDA.
TTM, before my mx I was a 36D. When I went for my prosthesis fitting I phoned them and asked if I should buy a bra beforehand but they said I shouldnt do that as they would fit me for one. They said I needed a 38C but they didn’t actually have one. So they just sent me home with a prosthesis size 8, which when I looked in the book was for a 38D or 36DD. So I brought a 38C from John Lewis which when I tried the prosthesis in, the pocket was far too small. I ordered a 38C from Amoema which never arrived after 2 weeks so I cancelled the order. Then ordered a 38C from Eloise which did arrive but was a 36D inside the box so had to go back. I then went to another larger John Lewis with my prosthesis and there was some discussion over whetther I needed a 36D or 34D. We went for a 36D in the end, which when I got it home and looked was a 36DD! I have never been a DD, in fact my remaining breast is the smaller of the 2 which is why I thought a C cup may be ok now. So, I ordered a 36D in the same style from Debenhams (half price too!), which I think is the correct size bra for me, but my prosthesis is too big.
I know it doesnt matter what size the bra is as long as it fits me, but with all the bra’s I have tried, the prosthesis seems to poke out of the top and it just seems biger than MY boob!
Sorry this has been a long saga, but maybe yo can sense my frustration?! I would be interested to know how you got on at Nicola Jane, TTM. In the mean time I might order another one in 36D from Debenhams as they are on offer. I have another appointment with the prosthesis clinic in a couple of weeks time.
Hi all
I am new here - just recently diagnosed with DCIS - got my sentinel node biopsy next week and my mx the following week.
I have a slight problem with deciding what to buy in the way of a bra. I don’t normally wear one - haven’t for years! So am not too keen on the idea but the Breast Care Nurse says that it is advisable just after the op as I will need the support - anyone got any ideas about where would be the best place to go - anyone think that I would get good impartial advice from somewhere like John Lewis or something? I did wonder about going there for a fitting then actually buying the bra from somewhere cheaper?
Hope you can help
Liz
