Mastectomy on fri

Hi
I had a mastectomy on Fri
And I’ve been unable to sleep since due to dizziness when I close my eyes, we’ve lifted my legs so they’re above my body level and this is helping the dizziness.
I feel completely beaten up and emotional, it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be. I feel v weak and I’m eating and drinking. I can only walk to bathroom and back with my husband helping. It’s v early days, hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better and hopefully I’ll get some sleep as I’m shattered.

I’m new on this forum as I have only recently had my lumpectomy. I asked a question and received a couple of positive replies, and i have to say, its really helpful to chat to people in the same situation, isn’t it?
Anyway, I’m obviously not in the same boat as you, but all i can say is that its very early days, especially after such radical surgery, but it can take a couple of days to recover from the anaesthetic, let alone a mastectomy.
Just try to take each day at a time, and if you think about how you felt on Saturday, you’ll probably be feeling just a bit better…
Let your husband spoil you and take itnice and slow…
Best wishes

Tbh it was all a daze in the hospital. I’m ok when I’m in bed awake but as soon as I close my eyes it starts! It’s horrible and I’m desperate for sleep. I’m going to see gp tomorrow to see if I can have some sleeping tablets or something to stop this spinning!

Did you get a helpline number from your hospital after the surgery? I did, it might be worth a call to them. It could be the anaesthetic lingering in your body or something else.

If that’s not possible, I hope you get the help from your GP.

Let us know how you get on. I had a bilateral (both) lumpectomy in July 2023 and I felt like I’d been hit by a bus, I was black and blue, could only sleep propped up on my back for weeks, I did have Zopiclone a sleeping tablet from my oncologist.

It’s early days, hopefully you will feel much better soon.

Hi @stafford22

Sorry you are feeling so rubbish - sounds like you might be a bit dehydrated and have slightly low BP which can happen. Try and drink water and cola and anything with ginger can help with nausea . Hopefully you will get a check phone call tomorrow. Hope you get some sleep - it really can mess with your system . Xx

The pain medication can cause dizziness especially morphine based drugs. The anaesthetic always makes me nauseous for a few days too.
