mastectomy & reconstruction
mastectomy & reconstruction Hi, Can anyone give me any feedback on their experiences.
I am booked on 16th april for mast & recon with muscle from the back & implant on my LHB.
I have had surgery already 3 times to the LHB & lymph glands have been removed.
I am concerned because 5 week after this op l am due to go to America & the Bahamas with my adult kids, on a holiday already delayed by a year because of the reoccurence of BC, my travel agent was understanding, but cannot cancel a 2nd time.
I have been told most ladies go back to work 6 weeks after this op.
So help can anyone give me their views. I want so much to go away with them. Thanks…Hazel
Hi Hazel I am nearly 4 weeks post op - the same one but on RHS. I am still a bit swollen and uncomfortable, but not in pain - in fact is has not been a really painful experience.
I am assuming you have already had chemo as you are having your recon post mastecomy and treatment. I had immediate recon. I think if you were going on to have chemo there might be a problem with going abroad - I discussed this with BC nurse this week as we were thinking of going abroad before I start chemo and was advised that there are places they would rather you did not go.
We have decided to stay in this country now - but I can see that your trip is far too good to miss!
I have been advised not to use swimming pools, sauna and jacuzzi, which might be best as you don’t want to catch anything in your wounds, although they should be well healed after 5 weeks.
If I was you I think I would go - just pace yourself, get plenty of rest and let your kids to all the lifting and carrying - I’ve no doubt they will look after you well!
One other thing is travel insurance - I have not looked into it at all but I know some people have problems getting cover.
Don’t know if I have helped or confused you more?
If you do go, have a great time, and good luck with the op.
Anita
