Mastectomy scar and new lump in area

Hi I’ve found a small hard immovable lump near to my mastectomy scar. Anyone else experienced this and what it’s turned out to be? Is there a chance it could be a local recurrence so soon after treatment has finished? Have had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy and currently on tamoxifen.
In a panic!

Could be this. I’d check it out with your team but this is one of the things I’ve been told to look out for after my surgery in the weeks/months following x

Thank you. I’m 19 months post op so not sure if this can occur at this stage?

Hiya

I had mastectomy and reconstruction 2 years ago…at about 18 months after i felt a lump near where my original lump had been…i went to see the team, they said it was probably dat necrosis but took biopsies anyway…they were just fat necrosis but its always worth checking.

Thank you for your reply. Did your lump feel hard? Mine is like a pea. I really hope it’s something like that. So hard not to worry it’s back x

Hi kgiddy

I had something very similar after my mastectomy. It felt like a hard rubbery pea sized lump. It scared me rigid. My BC clinic weren’t concerned at all and said it was almost certainly fat necrosis. They didn’t even ultrasound me.

I eventually went private to get some more reassurance and got an ultrasound. It was fat necrosis. This is very common. Just get it checked out but I wouldn’t be overly concerned if I were you.

Best of luck with it.

Hi just read your post. I’m about to have this checked out sounds very similar.
Mines a lentil size lump just under skin that moves around a bit under my finger tip. It’s quite firm like a small lentil. I’m scared silly at the mo.
It’s in area ( nipple) where my BC was and I had a mastectomy.
Did yours sound similar to what I’m experiencing… I’m travelling back from abroad right now to get it checked on Thursday.
Pleased to read your post and it was all
Ok. Xx

Hi yes mine is a lentil sized lump and very hard. Glad you are getting checked on Thursday. Try not to worry although I know that’s easier said than done. How long ago did you have your mastectomy? Mine was January 2024 and I had no idea about fat necrosis and to look out for it until I posted on this thread. My lump is in the same area as where the bc was and does sound very similar to how you describe yours. I hope everything goes well at your appointment

So my mastectomy was December 2023 and this lump is same location as my BC - very near surface of skin. If I lay down it disappears inbetween my ribs but it’s so small but as I’m quite boney I can feel it under my finger tip. So sounds similar to yours. I had an ultrasound while abroad and it came back ‘non specific’ and to return for another U/S in 3 months. Spoke to my surgeon /breastcare team in UK and decided to come back to get it looked at and have a conclusion as waiting 3 months with no idea didn’t seem right. Thanks so much for your reply it’s really helped. I’m calmer ( but always prepared!) thanks again x
